sap-adt-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

sap-adt-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from engoetz/sap-adt-mcp. It costs 2,301 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Project instructions for a Python client and MCP server that expose SAP ADT operations to an IDE assistant.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when developing, testing, running, or troubleshooting the SAP ADT client and its MCP server.
Why use it?
They document the repository's commands, architecture, tests, and rules for changing tooling that operates on ABAP code stored in SAP.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02301 $0.02301
Opus 5 $0.01151 $0.01151
Sonnet 5 $0.00460 $0.00460
Haiku 4.5 $0.00230 $0.00230

Measured 8d ago against content hash 94e5f8859bb6, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-09, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

sap-adt-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

CLAUDE.md

This file provides guidance to Claude Code (claude.ai/code) when working with code in this repository.

What this is

A Python client for the SAP ADT (ABAP Development Tools) REST API, plus an MCP server that exposes it as 25 tools so an IDE assistant can act as an ABAP workbench (search, read, write, activate, transports). It talks to the same /sap/bc/adt/* endpoints Eclipse ADT uses.

Note: this repo is the tooling. The ABAP code it manipulates lives in the SAP system, not here.

Commands

python -m venv .venv && .venv/Scripts/activate   # Windows; use bin/activate on Linux/macOS
pip install -e ".[dev]" # installs deps + pytest, registers `sap-adt-mcp`
python -m pytest tests -q # all tests (offline, no SAP system needed)
python -m pytest tests/test_client.py::test_resolve_object_uri -q
python scripts/run_mcp.py # run the MCP server on stdio (also: sap-adt-mcp)
python scripts/test_connection.py # smoke-test connectivity to the SAP host
sap-adt list # manage saved connections from the terminal
sap-adt add DEV # wizard; password via hidden prompt only
sap-adt test DEV # connect + probe which ADT endpoints exist

cli.py is the terminal front-end for credential_store. It deliberately has no --password flag — the password is read with getpass so it never lands in shell history or a chat log (SAP_PASSWORD is the documented escape hatch for automation). Without an editable install, the same entry point is python scripts/manage_connections.py.

The venv may not have pytest installed — pip install -e ".[dev]" first if No module named pytest.

Architecture

MCP client (Cursor/Claude) → mcp_server.py (FastMCP, stdio)
                               → RepositoryService / SourceService / ActivationService / TransportService
→ AdtClient (requests.Session: Basic auth, CSRF, stateful sessions)
                                     → SAP /sap/bc/adt/*

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
