SpecRoute: Instructions file for Kiro

runtimes/.kiro/steering/spec-driven-workflow.md

SpecRoute spec-driven-workflow.md is an instructions file for Kiro from Enovatr-Labs/SpecRoute. It costs 174 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A set of project instructions for a specification-led software workflow. It organises work from product requirements through design, implementation, validation, and review, with readiness checks before coding starts.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to route product documents, technical specifications, shared rules, and automation files in a repository. It also defines when requirements, design, and implementation tasks are ready.
Why use it?
It helps prevent development from beginning with unclear requirements, undocumented interfaces, or tasks that do not trace back to a stated need.

This is Enovatr-Labs/SpecRoute's own configuration. It tells Kiro how to work on SpecRoute itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything SpecRoute configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00174 $0.00174
Opus 5.5 $0.00070 $0.00070
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00035 $0.00035
Haiku 4.5 $0.00017 $0.00017

Measured 3d ago against content hash 6ef0e95571e9, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

SpecRoute spec-driven-workflow.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Spec-Driven Workflow

Use this steering file in every Kiro conversation for a SpecRoute-enabled repo.

Work moves in this order:

PRD -> requirements/design/tasks -> implementation -> validation -> review

Artifact Routing

  • Product intent and success metrics live in prds/.
  • Kiro-native specs live in .kiro/specs/<feature>/requirements.md, design.md, and tasks.md.
  • Shared engineering rules live in rules/.
  • Event automation lives in .kiro/hooks/*.json (Kiro IDE 1.0 format; the 0.x *.kiro.hook files no longer execute).

Readiness Bar

Implementation starts only after requirements have stable IDs, design explains interfaces and failure modes, and tasks reference the requirements they satisfy.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
