CLAUDE.md

role-playing-mcp-server CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from fritzprix/role-playing-mcp-server. It costs 1,727 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Instructions for an MCP server that lets AI assistants run interactive role-playing games. MCP, or Model Context Protocol, is a standard way for an AI assistant to call tools provided by another program.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when developing the game loop: creating games, advancing stories, presenting choices, processing selections, updating game state, ending games, and restarting games.
Why use it?
They give developers the project commands and checks needed to build, run, test, inspect, lint, and format the server consistently.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01727 $0.01727
Opus 5 $0.00864 $0.00864
Sonnet 5 $0.00345 $0.00345
Haiku 4.5 $0.00173 $0.00173

Security

Grade A, and why

role-playing-mcp-server CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

RPG MCP Server is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that enables AI assistants to run interactive role-playing games with users. The server provides 7 core tools that form a complete game loop: creating games, progressing narratives, prompting user choices, processing selections, updating game state, handling game over scenarios, and restarting games.

Development Commands

Build and Run

npm run build # Compile TypeScript to JavaScript
npm start # Run the compiled server
npm run dev # Build and run in one step

Code Quality

npm run type-check # Run TypeScript type checking without compilation
npm run lint # Check code for linting errors
npm run lint:fix # Auto-fix linting errors
npm run format # Format code with Prettier
npm run format:check # Check code formatting
npm run check # Run all checks: type-check, lint, and format:check

Testing & Debugging

npm run inspector # Launch MCP Inspector for interactive testing
npm run inspector:dev # Build and launch inspector in one step
npm run clean # Remove dist directory

Important: Always run npm run build before testing with MCP Inspector or publishing.

Architecture

Core Components

src/index.ts - Main Server & Tool Handler

  • RPGMCPServer class orchestrates all MCP protocol interactions
  • Registers 7 tools via ListToolsRequestSchema: createGame, updateGame, getGame, progressStory, promptUserActions, selectAction, selectRestart
  • Handles tool invocation via CallToolRequestSchema
  • Generates interactive HTML UIs for game progression and game over screens
  • Uses formatToolResponse() to provide AI-friendly guidance on workflow state and next steps

src/gameManager.ts - Game State Management

  • GameManager class maintains in-memory game storage via Map<string, Game>
  • Implements all core game operations (create, update, get, progress, prompt, select)
  • Handles nested field updates using path notation (e.g., characters[0].hp, world.location)
  • Manages Delta system for tracking state changes between UI prompts
  • Maintains game history (last 10 situation-action pairs)

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
