synapse-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

synapse-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from gabriel-romero-poza/synapse-mcp. It costs 555 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

An instruction file for Synapse, a project-agnostic MCP server that exposes Markdown files from a project's docs folder to coding agents. MCP is a standard way for an agent to access external tools and information.

In plain words
What is it for?
Orienting agents working on Synapse, including locating the documentation, understanding its TypeScript and Node.js setup, and implementing or maintaining access to project Markdown files.
Why use it?
It explains the project's purpose, structure, technology choices, and rules before an agent edits the code, helping keep the documentation connection aligned with the project.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00555 $0.00555
Opus 5 $0.00278 $0.00278
Sonnet 5 $0.00111 $0.00111
Haiku 4.5 $0.00056 $0.00056

Security

Grade A, and why

synapse-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Guide for AI agents

This file gives AI agents the context they need to work on Synapse without hallucinating or breaking conventions.

What Synapse is

  • MCP server (Model Context Protocol) that is project-agnostic.
  • Purpose: Expose a project’s /docs folder as MCP resources so AI clients (e.g. Cursor, Claude Desktop) get stable, up-to-date context. That “brain” reduces hallucinations and keeps agents aligned with the project’s vision and rules.
  • Current phase: Early. Repo has TS + MCP SDK setup and a stub entrypoint. Next step: implement listing and reading of .md files under /docs as resources (URIs like synapse://docs/...).

Tech stack

  • Runtime: Node.js ≥ 18
  • Language: TypeScript (strict, ESM)
  • Package manager: pnpm (lockfile: pnpm-lock.yaml)
  • MCP: @modelcontextprotocol/sdk, transport stdio for local use
  • Convention: Project root = process.cwd() or SYNAPSE_PROJECT_ROOT; docs = {root}/docs

Where to look before editing

  1. AGENTS.md (this file) — purpose and stack.
  2. docs/ — vision, architecture, design (see docs/README.md).
  3. .cursor/rules/ — commit format, TypeScript, agentic workflow.
  4. CONTRIBUTING.md — commit conventions, PR process, code standards.

Guardrails (do not break)

  • Conventional Commits for every commit (feat:, fix:, docs:, etc.). See CONTRIBUTING.md and .cursor/rules/commits.mdc.
  • One logical change per commit. No “WIP” or “misc updates” dumps.
  • Project-agnostic core. No product-specific logic (no hardcoded app names, domains, or business rules) in the main server.
  • pnpm only. Do not introduce npm or yarn lockfiles or scripts that assume npm/yarn.
  • Strict TypeScript. No any without justification; respect tsconfig.

If the user asks for something that conflicts with these (e.g. remove CONTRIBUTING or add product-specific logic to core), ask for confirmation before doing it.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
