hevy-mcp: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/copilot-instructions.md

hevy-mcp copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from gCuadros/hevy-mcp. It costs 318 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository-specific instructions for contributing to the hevy-mcp project, which connects software to the Hevy workout service. They describe the required tools, tests, file conventions, and safety rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when modifying this repository, especially code for workout history, routines, calculations, API writes, tests, builds, or user-facing changes.
Why use it?
Following the wrong package manager, import style, or data-writing rule could break the project or change workout data incorrectly. The instructions provide the rules to check before editing.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00318 $0.00318
Opus 5 $0.00159 $0.00159
Sonnet 5 $0.00064 $0.00064
Haiku 4.5 $0.00032 $0.00032

Security

Grade A, and why

hevy-mcp copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Copilot instructions

The full instructions for this repository are in AGENTS.md at the repo root. Read it before making changes. Several directories add local rules in their own AGENTS.mdsrc/hevy/, src/engine/ and src/auth/.

The essentials, so that a short session does not go wrong before it gets there:

  • Package manager is yarn classic (v1). Never npm, npx or pnpm.
  • Validate every change with yarn typecheck && yarn test && yarn build. There is no linter; yarn lint does not exist.
  • Local imports need the .js extension (./tools/read.js) — the project is ESM with moduleResolution: NodeNext.
  • Never add a tool that writes workout history. The server reads history and writes only routines. That guarantee is published to users in docs/CONNECTOR.md.
  • Never log an API key, token or sealing key.
  • Hevy's API has no DELETE, so failed writes are never retried and writes resolve every name before sending anything.
  • All arithmetic belongs in src/engine/ as pure, fixture-tested functions. The server computes the numbers; the model interprets them.
  • Add a changeset (yarn changeset) for any user-facing change, and never commit to main directly.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
