repo-intelligence-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

repo-intelligence-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from georg-nikola/repo-intelligence-mcp. It costs 662 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of instructions for working on the repository behind repo-intelligence-mcp, a read-only server that scans a code repository and reports structured information about it. MCP is a standard way for AI tools to use external services.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to develop the server, run its tests, check its TypeScript code, or scan a repository with limits on file count and folder depth.
Why use it?
It gives contributors the exact commands and project structure needed to build, test, check, and run the server without guessing.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00662 $0.00662
Opus 5 $0.00331 $0.00331
Sonnet 5 $0.00132 $0.00132
Haiku 4.5 $0.00066 $0.00066

Security

Grade A, and why

repo-intelligence-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Commands

# Build
npm run build # tsc → dist/

# Develop (no build step)
npm run dev # runs src/server.ts directly via tsx

# Test
npm test # vitest run (single pass)
npm run test:watch # vitest watch mode

# Run a single test file
npx vitest run tests/analyzers/tree.test.ts

# Lint (type-check only, no separate linter)
npm run lint # tsc --noEmit

# Run the server against a repo
node dist/server.js --repo /path/to/repo [--max-files N] [--max-depth N]

Architecture

This is a read-only MCP server that exposes repository intelligence via the Model Context Protocol over stdio. The server takes a --repo path at startup and scans it once per resource request (no caching).

Data flow

CLI args (--repo, --max-files, --max-depth)
  → server.ts: getRepoPath / getScanOptions / validateRepoPath / createServer
→ scanner.ts: scanRepository → ScanResult (flat list of FileEntry)
→ analyzers/*.ts: each takes ScanResult or repoRoot, returns typed result
  → server.ts: JSON-serialized to MCP ReadResourceResult

Key files

  • src/server.ts — MCP server setup; registers five resources (repo://tree, repo://languages, repo://dependencies, repo://scripts, repo://configs). Each resource handler calls scanRepository then the appropriate analyzer.
  • src/scanner.ts — Filesystem walker. Respects .gitignore (via the ignore package) plus a hardcoded ALWAYS_EXCLUDED set (node_modules, dist, .git, etc.). Returns a flat FileEntry[].
  • src/analyzers/ — One file per resource:
    • tree.ts — builds a tree-command-style string from flat entries
    • languages.ts — maps file extensions to language names via EXTENSION_MAP
    • dependencies.ts — parses package.json, requirements.txt, pyproject.toml (custom line-based TOML parser, no TOML lib)
    • scripts.ts — parses package.json scripts and Makefile targets
    • configs.ts — detects known config filenames (ESLint, Prettier, tsconfig, CI, etc.)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
