Sia: Instructions file for Kiro

.kiro/steering/database-schema-changes.md

Sia database-schema-changes.md is an instructions file for Kiro from GetPullRequest/Sia. It costs 528 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A project-specific guide for changing database tables and generating their migrations. A migration is a recorded database change that can be applied to other environments.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing the database schema in the Sia API, such as adding a column or creating a table, and when naming, generating, or applying the resulting migration.
Why use it?
It prevents schema edits from getting out of sync with the database and avoids manually written SQL migration files. It also gives the required order for editing the schema, generating a migration with Drizzle, and applying it.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00528 $0.00528
Opus 5.5 $0.00211 $0.00211
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00106 $0.00106
Haiku 4.5 $0.00053 $0.00053

Measured 1mo ago against content hash 57a8fd187c70, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

Sia database-schema-changes.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Database Schema Changes Guidelines

When making changes to the database schema, follow these rules to ensure migrations are properly generated and applied.

Schema Location

All database table definitions are in:

apps/api/src/db/schema.ts

Required Steps After Schema Changes

1. Modify Schema

Edit apps/api/src/db/schema.ts with your changes:

// Example: Adding a new column
export const jobs = pgTable('gpr_jobs', {
  id: uuid('id').primaryKey(),
  // ... existing columns
  newColumn: text('new_column'), // Add new column here
});

2. Generate Migration

NEVER create SQL files manually. Always use Drizzle to auto-generate:

npm run db:generate -w @sia/api -- --name=<meaningful_name>

Example:

npm run db:generate -w @sia/api -- --name=add-job-priority-column
npm run db:generate -w @sia/api -- --name=create-agents-table
npm run db:generate -w @sia/api -- --name=add-temporal-workflow-fields

3. Apply Migration

After generating the migration, apply it to the database:

npm run db:migrate -w @sia/api

Migration Naming Conventions

Use descriptive, kebab-case names:

  • add-<column>-to-<table> - Adding a column
  • create-<table>-table - Creating a new table
  • remove-<column>-from-<table> - Removing a column
  • rename-<old>-to-<new> - Renaming
  • add-<index>-index - Adding an index

Important Rules

  1. Never manually write SQL migration files - Drizzle generates them
  2. Always generate before migrating - Don't skip the generate step
  3. Use meaningful migration names - Makes rollbacks easier to understand
  4. Test migrations locally first - Before applying to production

Workflow Summary

# 1. Edit schema.ts
# 2. Generate migration
npm run db:generate -w @sia/api -- --name=your-change-description

# 3. Apply migration
npm run db:migrate -w @sia/api

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
