docstats AGENTS.md

A set of project instructions for docstats, covering issue tracking, maintenance, quality checks, benchmarking, and how to finish a work session. Benchmarking means comparing current results with a saved reference set.

In plain words
What is it for?
For maintaining docstats, managing its issues with beads, checking extraction or metric changes, and completing the project’s required session workflow.
Why use it?
It gives coding agents the project’s required workflow and checks, including how to track work and detect changes in results.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00916 $0.00916
Opus 5 $0.00458 $0.00458
Sonnet 5 $0.00183 $0.00183
Haiku 4.5 $0.00092 $0.00092

Measured 2d ago against content hash 80c40d6c8b59, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade C, and why

docstats AGENTS.md scanned grade C with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Hidden instructionshighPrompt injection

Directives inside HTML comments, invisible characters or bidirectional overrides are read by the model and not by the person reviewing the file.

Issue Tracking

This project uses bd (beads) for issue tracking. Run bd prime for workflow context, or install hooks (bd hooks install) for auto-injection.

Quick reference:

  • bd ready - Find unblocked work
  • bd show <id> - View issue details
  • bd create "Title" --type task --priority 2 - Create issue
  • bd update <id> --claim - Claim work
  • bd close <id> - Complete work
  • bd dolt push - Push beads to remote

For full workflow details: bd prime

Maintenance & Quality

Benchmarking with the Golden Set

When modifying extraction logic (extraction.py) or metric calculations (metrics.py), you must verify that you haven't introduced unintended "drift" in the scores:

  • Run Baseline: uv run python baseline_analysis.py
  • Verify: Compare the output against samples/baseline_results.json.
  • Quality Goal: Use these samples to perform "Hill Climbing"—iteratively adjusting code or content to meet specific readability targets.

Landing the Plane (Session Completion)

When ending a work session, you MUST complete ALL steps below. Work is NOT complete until git push succeeds.

MANDATORY WORKFLOW:

  1. File issues for remaining work - Create issues for anything that needs follow-up
  2. Run quality gates (if code changed) - Tests, linters, builds
  3. Update issue status - Close finished work, update in-progress items
  4. PUSH TO REMOTE - This is MANDATORY:
    git pull --rebase
    bd sync
    git push
git status # MUST show "up to date with origin"

  5. Clean up - Clear stashes, prune remote branches
  6. Verify - All changes committed AND pushed
  7. Hand off - Provide context for next session

CRITICAL RULES:

  • Work is NOT complete until git push succeeds
  • NEVER stop before pushing - that leaves work stranded locally
  • NEVER say "ready to push when you are" - YOU must push
  • If push fails, resolve and retry until it succeeds

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
