notion-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

notion-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from Glebsky/notion-mcp. It costs 2,236 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of agent instructions for a Notion terminal MCP server, which lets AI agents communicate with a server that provides file-system access. MCP is a standard connection method for AI tools.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for guiding agents that use the server over HTTP to read or change files safely and interpret its audit logs and access settings.
Why use it?
It explains how the server works, how it authenticates requests, and what limits and sandbox rules agents must follow.

This is Glebsky/notion-mcp's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on notion-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything notion-mcp configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02236 $0.02236
Opus 5 $0.01118 $0.01118
Sonnet 5 $0.00447 $0.00447
Haiku 4.5 $0.00224 $0.00224

Measured 6d ago against content hash 179618b256b1, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

notion-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

2. Security & Execution Model

2.1 Sandboxing (FULL_ACCESS)

  • When FULL_ACCESS=false (Default Sandbox):
    • All file and directory paths are strictly jailed within FILES_ROOT (e.g., ./workspace or custom configured path).
    • Path traversal attempts (../, symlink escapes, absolute paths pointing outside FILES_ROOT) are immediately rejected with an error.
    • Working directories (cwd) for terminal_execute default to FILES_ROOT.
  • When FULL_ACCESS=true (Unrestricted Mode):
    • The agent has full access to the host filesystem with permissions of the host user running the server.

2.2 Limits and Buffers

  • MAX_OUTPUT_BYTES (default: 1 MB): Terminal output exceeding this limit is capped with truncated: true.
  • MAX_FILE_BYTES (default: 10 MB): File read/write operations exceeding this limit require offset pagination or are rejected.
  • COMMAND_TIMEOUT_MS (default: 120,000 ms, max: 900,000 ms): Long running processes are automatically killed with their full process tree.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
