ras-commander: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

ras-commander AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from gpt-cmdr/ras-commander. It costs 2,867 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A shared instruction file for coding agents working on RAS-Commander, a Python library for automating HEC-RAS flood-model tasks and reading its data. It defines how the agent should load and follow the project's rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when developing, testing, or reviewing the RAS-Commander library with coding agents.
Why use it?
It gives different coding assistants one common set of repository guidance instead of leaving important behavior in tool-specific files.

Instructions file for CodexOpenCode

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: reads .claude/ paths; mentions CLAUDE.md; mentions Claude Code.

This is gpt-cmdr/ras-commander's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on ras-commander itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything ras-commander configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02867 $0.02867
Opus 5 $0.01434 $0.01434
Sonnet 5 $0.00573 $0.00573
Haiku 4.5 $0.00287 $0.00287

Measured 3d ago against content hash 344e436df651, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

ras-commander AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

ras-commander Agent Contract

This file is the canonical shared instruction contract for repository-local coding agents.

Harness Loading

  • Codex reads this file directly.
  • Claude Code must import this file from the matching CLAUDE.md.
  • The AGENTS.md hierarchy is the shared source of truth. Read the nearest file first, then inherit parent AGENTS.md files.
  • CLAUDE.md files are loaders and Claude-specific adapters. They must not become a second documentation system.
  • Shared rules belong in the AGENTS.md hierarchy or a shared skill corpus. Do not leave a rule that Codex also needs only in .claude/rules/.
  • .claude/rules/ is a Claude preload layer. It can restate or accelerate shared guidance, but it is not the canonical shared contract.
  • .claude/MANIFEST.md is the current Claude component registry. It is useful for discovery, but it is not the source of truth for shared behavior.
  • .claude/agents/ contains Claude-native delegation roles. Keep them thin and point them back to shared instructions.
  • .claude/settings.json and .codex/hooks.json are thin hook adapters that call shared hook logic under scripts/agent_hooks/.
  • Primary first-class harnesses in this repository are Claude Code and Codex.

Current Codex Skill Status

  • Codex auto-loads AGENTS.md.
  • Codex skill discovery can be enabled locally by generating .agents/skills/ links:
    • python scripts/agent_framework/sync_codex_skill_bridge.py
  • The bridge links explicitly allowlisted shared-domain skills from .claude/skills/ and Codex-native adapter skills from .agents/native-skills/.
  • A shared skill must declare shared_corpus: true, harness_scope: shared, accepted source_owner, and accepted security_review metadata before the bridge exposes it to Codex.
  • A Codex-native adapter skill must declare shared_corpus: false, harness_scope: codex_only, accepted source_owner, and accepted security_review metadata.
  • Skills marked shared_corpus: false or harness_scope: claude_only are excluded.
  • .agents/skills/* entries are generated symlinks or Windows junctions, not source files. Do not edit them directly.
  • Shared skill sources remain .claude/skills/ until a later migration changes that explicitly.
  • Codex-only provider handoff skills, such as Claude Code QAQC invocation, live in .agents/native-skills/.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
