skills AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from grafana/skills. It costs 1,346 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Repository instructions for Grafana’s public collection of coding-agent skills for observability tools such as Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, and k6.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when creating, organizing, or linting skills and updating marketplace manifests.
Why use it?
They explain the repository layout and validation process, reducing mistakes when adding or checking skills and marketplace files.

Installs and runs on its own, but its text points at files inside the plugin that ships it — anything it tells you to read at a ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT} path is only there once the plugin is installed.

About the project

Grafana Skills is a collection of agent skills for working with Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, Pyroscope, k6, and the broader LGTM observability stack. Developers and operators use the skills with coding agents that support the Agent Skills standard. The catalogue entries are the repository’s own skills, plugins, and instructions for using these observability tools.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.01346 $0.01346
Opus 5 $0.00673 $0.00673
Sonnet 5 $0.00269 $0.00269
Haiku 4.5 $0.00135 $0.00135

Measured 5d ago against content hash aaea5dfabf19, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

skills AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Repository Purpose

This is the Grafana public skills repository — a plugin marketplace providing AI-assisted development skills for Claude Code, Cursor, and other tools supporting the Agent Skills standard.

Skills cover Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, Pyroscope, k6, and the broader LGTM observability stack.

Structure Overview

.claude-plugin/marketplace.json # Claude Code marketplace manifest
.cursor-plugin/marketplace.json # Cursor marketplace manifest (identical content)
.agents-plugin/marketplace.json # Codex marketplace manifest (identical content)
skills/ # All skills, grouped by plugin
  <plugin-name>/
    <skill-name>/
      SKILL.md # Required: skill definition
scripts/ # Optional: executable helper scripts
references/ # Optional: reference docs loaded on demand
assets/ # Optional: templates, schemas, data files
template/SKILL.md # Starter template for contributors
scripts/lint-skills.sh # Validates SKILL.md files

Key architecture:

  • Single source of truth in skills/ — Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex all reference the same content
  • Three marketplace manifests (.claude-plugin/, .cursor-plugin/, .agents-plugin/) with identical content
  • skills/ is the conventional directory used by all major agent tools

How Skills Work

Skills are folders of instructions, scripts, and resources that agents load dynamically when relevant.

  1. The agent reads the skill's description frontmatter
  2. When the context matches, the agent loads the full SKILL.md
  3. Supporting files in scripts/ and references/ are loaded on demand

Invocation Modes

Two frontmatter fields control who can invoke a skill:

disable-model-invocation (default: false):

  • false: Agent may auto-load when context matches
  • true: Agent will never auto-load; only runs when user types /skill-name

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
