mcpbr AGENTS.md

mcpbr AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from greynewell/mcpbr. It costs 4,694 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for coding agents working on the mcpbr Python project. They explain how to set up an isolated environment and run checks, scripts, and tests.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing mcpbr: create its development environment, run formatting and lint checks, run tests, and prepare contributions.
Why use it?
They reduce setup mistakes and keep development commands, code quality checks, tests, and documentation work consistent.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.04694 $0.04694
Opus 5 $0.02347 $0.02347
Sonnet 5 $0.00939 $0.00939
Haiku 4.5 $0.00469 $0.00469

Security

Grade A, and why

mcpbr AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Virtual Environment Setup

⚠️ CRITICAL: ALWAYS USE A VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT

macOS uses system Python protection (PEP 668) which prevents installing packages globally. DO NOT use --break-system-packages or try to install packages system-wide. Instead, ALWAYS use a virtual environment or uv/uvx.

Option 1: Using uv (Recommended)

The project uses uv for dependency management. Use uvx for running commands and uv run for scripts:

# Run commands without installation
uvx ruff check src/ tests/
uvx ruff format src/ tests/

# Run Python scripts/tests
uv run pytest -m "not integration"

# Install project in development mode (if needed)
uv pip install -e ".[dev]"

This is the preferred approach as it's already configured in the project.

Option 2: Traditional Virtual Environment

If you need a traditional venv:

# Create virtual environment (one time)
python3 -m venv .venv

# Activate it (REQUIRED for every terminal session)
source .venv/bin/activate

# Install dependencies
pip install -e ".[dev]"

# Now you can use pip and run commands normally
pip install pre-commit
pytest -m "not integration"

# Deactivate when done
deactivate

Option 3: Using pipx for Global Tools

For global tools like pre-commit, use pipx:

# Install pipx (one time)
brew install pipx

# Install global tools
pipx install pre-commit
pipx install pytest

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
