Burp-AI-Analyzer: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

Burp-AI-Analyzer AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from gtasb/Burp-AI-Analyzer. It costs 945 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for Burp-AI-Analyzer, a Java 21 extension for Burp Suite that uses AI to analyze web-application traffic. They document the build and tests, main components, dependencies, and known quirks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when building or testing the extension, changing its AI runtime, clients, panels, filesystem or command-line access, or fixing documented bugs.
Why use it?
They show developers where the extension's large user interface and two similar API clients live, and which settings affect its tools. This reduces the chance of changing one duplicated client or UI path while missing the other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00945 $0.00945
Opus 5 $0.00473 $0.00473
Sonnet 5 $0.00189 $0.00189
Haiku 4.5 $0.00094 $0.00094

Security

Grade A, and why

Burp-AI-Analyzer AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Build & test

mvn clean package # full build + tests
mvn test # 349 tests, ~2 min

Requires JDK 21 + --enable-preview (Maven config handles this).

Architecture

  • Entrypoint: src/com/ai/analyzer/core/AIExtension.javaimplements BurpExtension
  • Agent runtime: AgentScopeAgentRuntime wraps AgentScope 2.0 HarnessAgent via streamEvents()
  • Two parallel clients: AgentApiClient (active/chat) and PassiveScanApiClient (batch). They have ~90% duplicated code — editing one likely needs the same change in the other
  • UI: AIAnalyzerTab (3475 lines) is the main JPanel tab; ChatPanel is the side panel

Key dependencies

io.agentscope:agentscope-harness:2.0.0 — HarnessAgent provides native tools:

  • execute_shell_command (controlled by enableCliTool checkbox)
  • agent_spawn/agent_send/agent_list (sub-agents, always enabled)
  • read_file/write_file/edit_file/grep/glob (filesystem, controlled by enableFileSystemAccess)
  • Tool results >16KB auto-evicted to disk, readable via read_file

Known bugs & quirks

  • Every checkbox action listener MUST call apiClient.setXxx() — not just toggle UI state. enableCustomMcpCheckBox was missing this (fixed), check new additions
  • applySettings() must mirror saveSettings()tokenBudgetTokens and enablePlanMode were saved to file but never restored to runtime (fixed). Any new PluginSettings field needs entries in both methods
  • Windows shell paths: SkillToolExecutor.tokenizeArgs() used to eat backslashes (fixed). Backslash only escapes before ", \, '
  • Shell/Python toggle conflation: disableShellTool() was gated on !enableCliTool && !enablePythonScript (fixed to !enableCliTool)
  • PassiveScanApiClient: enableThinking was a dead field (deleted). System prompt cache hash was missing MCP/filesystem toggles (fixed). apiProvider was not restored from settings (fixed)
  • Serialized settings (ai_analyzer_settings.dat) use Java serialization with serialVersionUID = 9L. PluginSettings.loadCompat() handles UID mismatch
  • useAgentScope was a serialized dead field never read anywhere (deleted). Remove any future dead field from PluginSettings or it pollutes the binary forever

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
