erp-report-engine: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/copilot-instructions.md

erp-report-engine copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from gulmezeren2-byte/erp-report-engine. It costs 1,026 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project-specific instructions for an ERP reporting tool, which reads business data from an ERP database and produces reports and analysis.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when building, testing, linting, or changing the ERP report engine and its database, reporting, or MCP components.
Why use it?
They give a coding agent the project's build commands, architecture, conventions, and rules for keeping data flow one-way and database access read-only.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01026 $0.01026
Opus 5 $0.00513 $0.00513
Sonnet 5 $0.00205 $0.00205
Haiku 4.5 $0.00103 $0.00103

Measured 8d ago against content hash 375821d1dc84, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

erp-report-engine copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Copilot instructions — erp-report-engine

A read-only, self-verifying data layer over the SQL database behind an ERP: a weekly HTML KPI report, a Power BI project, and a guarded MCP server for AI agents. Python 3.10–3.14, hatchling build. Runtime deps: pandas, sqlalchemy, sqlglot, jinja2, pyyaml (+ optional mcp extra). Dev: pytest, ruff, hypothesis.

Build, test, lint

pip install -e ".[dev, mcp]" # install with dev + MCP extras
python -m pytest tests/ -q # full suite (guard, calendar, MCP, end-to-end on the demo DB)
python -m ruff check erp_report_engine demo tests
erp-report-engine init-demo # build the bundled demo DB + config
erp-report-engine trust-benchmark # run the read-only guard against its attack corpus (no DB)

CLI verbs: init-demo, validate, run, export-powerbi, mcp, trust-benchmark, schema.

Architecture (one-way data flow)

config → profile → guard.py (4-layer read-only) + connect (audit) → extract → data-quality gate + COUNT(*) reconciliation → kpi (calendar-anchored) → insights (XmR + p-chart) → render / export_powerbi / mcp_server

  • Pure core (kpi.py, insights.py, spc.py, week_calendar.py): pandas/stdlib only, no I/O. Never import the I/O edge (connect, sqlalchemy, render) from here.
  • The guard (guard.py): the read-only guard, re + sqlglot only, so it runs standalone (the browser playground loads it verbatim). connect.py re-exports it.
  • I/O edge: connect.py is the only path to the database. Route every query through connect.safe_read — do not open a second connection path.
  • Surfaces (cli.py, mcp_server.py) are thin consumers of the runner.py facade (validate / build_report / guarded_query).
  • Contracts: semantic.py (CANONICAL_SCHEMA — canonical entities + per-column meaning), attack_corpus.py (the shared guard benchmark), errors.py (exit-code taxonomy).

Invariants — do not weaken

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
