table_tennis: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

table_tennis AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from gurgeous/table_tennis. It costs 294 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for TableTennis, a Ruby library that turns CSV-like rows into colored tables in a terminal.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing the public table API, data structures, configuration, themes, terminal colors, rendering, tests, or code checks.
Why use it?
They explain how data moves through formatting, layout, coloring, and rendering, so changes fit the library's existing design and performance expectations.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00294 $0.00294
Opus 5.5 $0.00118 $0.00118
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00059 $0.00059
Haiku 4.5 $0.00029 $0.00029

Security

Grade A, and why

table_tennis AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Purpose

TableTennis is a popular ruby gem for rendering ANSI-colored tables from csv-like rows (hash-ish objects). Beauty > performance, but keep small-table latency snappy.

Key flow

  • Public API: TableTennis.new -> TableTennis::Table (lib/table_tennis/table.rb).
  • Pipeline: Format -> Layout -> Painter -> Render (lib/table_tennis/stage/*.rb).
  • Data model: TableData, Column, Row (lib/table_tennis/table_data.rb, lib/table_tennis/column.rb, lib/table_tennis/row.rb).
  • Config/theming: Config, Theme, Util::Colors/Console/Strings/Termbg (lib/table_tennis/config.rb, lib/table_tennis/theme.rb, lib/table_tennis/util/*).

dev (prefer just)

  • just test
  • just lint / just format
  • just check

Style/conventions

  • Defaults and validation live in Config (MagicOptions).
  • Rendering cost is mostly in Stage::Render (ANSI/string work); memoization via MemoWise is used in hot paths.
  • Prefer short methods, short variable names, and comment lightly when code is complex
  • Ruby one-liners are find and even preferred for trivial methods
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
