decision-trail: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/copilot-instructions.md

decision-trail copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from haevg-rz/decision-trail. It costs 218 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A short Copilot pointer file that directs coding agents to the repository’s main AGENTS.md instructions and related decision-trail documentation.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it as the entry point for understanding the project’s working contract, work stages, file locations, linking terms, and confirmation requirement.
Why use it?
It prevents the same rules from being copied into multiple files and becoming inconsistent.

This is haevg-rz/decision-trail's own configuration. It tells GitHub Copilot how to work on decision-trail itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything decision-trail configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00218 $0.00218
Opus 5 $0.00109 $0.00109
Sonnet 5 $0.00044 $0.00044
Haiku 4.5 $0.00022 $0.00022

Measured 7d ago against content hash 4f2f1a9f5e58, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

decision-trail copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

decision-trail — Copilot instructions

This file is intentionally thin. For working in this repo, the entry point is AGENTS.md at the repository root — the terse reference for the contract, lifecycle, layout, conventions, and agent guidance. New to the method? Read the guide first: guide.md. (The canonical method spec lives in starter/docs/working-method.md; this repo's AGENTS.md is a derived rendering of it.)

Read AGENTS.md first. It is tool-agnostic. Everything you need to work in this repo is there, including:

  • the eight-promise contract,
  • the idea → proposal → decision → plan → execution lifecycle and where each artifact lives,
  • the cross-link vocabulary,
  • the confirmation guard.

Do not duplicate that content here; keep this file a pointer so the two never diverge (Economy, promise #2).

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
