jolt-transform-web: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

jolt-transform-web CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from halversondm/jolt-transform-web. It costs 1,222 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for a Spring Boot application that transforms JSON with JOLT, a tool for mapping JSON from one structure to another. The project includes a React web interface and an MCP server so compatible AI clients can use the transformation tool.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing the Java backend, React interface, JSON transformation features, Maven multi-module build, or MCP integration.
Why use it?
It gives a coding agent the project's architecture, modules, build process, and key technologies instead of making it rediscover them.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01222 $0.01222
Opus 5.5 $0.00489 $0.00489
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00244 $0.00244
Haiku 4.5 $0.00122 $0.00122

Security

Grade A, and why

jolt-transform-web CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 21d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project overview

JOLT Transform Web is a Spring Boot 4 application that lets users transform JSON using bazaarvoice JOLT specifications, with an AI assistant (Google Gemini via Spring AI) that can generate a JOLT spec from example input/output JSON. The same Spring Boot app also exposes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server so the transform capability can be used as a tool by MCP clients.

It's a Maven multi-module reactor with an embedded React frontend:

  • jolt-transform-parent — parent POM: Java version, spring-ai-bom and internal dependency management. Both other modules inherit from this (not from the root POM).
  • jolt-transform-app — the Spring Boot application (REST controllers, transform service, MCP tool, AWS Secrets Manager config).
  • jolt-transform-ui — a Vite + React 19 + Tailwind v4 SPA. Its Maven build (exec-maven-plugin) runs npm install and npm run build during mvn compile, and Vite outputs directly into jolt-transform-ui/target/classes/static, so the built JS/CSS gets packaged onto the classpath of jolt-transform-app as Spring Boot static resources (jolt-transform-app depends on jolt-transform-ui, which forces module build order).

The root pom.xml is a packaging=pom aggregator listing all three modules; it is not the module the app/parent inherit from.

Common commands

Build everything (Java + UI, in the correct module order):

mvn clean install

Run the app locally (serves API + built UI on port 8081):

mvn -pl jolt-transform-app spring-boot:run

Run only the Java tests:

mvn -pl jolt-transform-app test

Run a single Java test class/method:

mvn -pl jolt-transform-app test -Dtest=JoltTransformControllerTest
mvn -pl jolt-transform-app test -Dtest=JoltTransformControllerTest#testMethodName

UI development (from jolt-transform-ui/), with hot reload against a locally running backend on 8081:

npm install
npm run dev

UI tests (Vitest):

npm test # run once
npm run test:watch

Run a single UI test file:

npx vitest run src/test/TransformPage.test.jsx

UI production build (also invoked automatically by Maven):

npm run build # runs vitest run, then vite build into target/classes/static

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
