ibu-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

ibu-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from Haris0059/ibu-mcp. It costs 398 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for ibu-mcp, a TypeScript server that provides tools for accessing IBU student-portal data. They describe how to build, test, run, authenticate, and add tools while following the server's communication rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
They are for developing the MCP server, adding student-portal tools, checking its build and protocol handshake, and handling its command-line output correctly.
Why use it?
They give a coding agent the project's conventions and limits, reducing mistakes when changing or running the server.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00398 $0.00398
Opus 5.5 $0.00159 $0.00159
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00080 $0.00080
Haiku 4.5 $0.00040 $0.00040

Security

Grade A, and why

ibu-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

AGENTS.md

Project

This is a local stdio MCP server built with @modelcontextprotocol/sdk. It exposes IBU student-portal data through tools. The entry point is src/index.ts; HTTP and authentication code is in src/client.ts and src/auth.ts; domain tools live in src/tools/.

Commands

  • npm run dev runs the TypeScript source with tsx.
  • npm run build compiles the strict TypeScript project to dist/.
  • npm run test:mcp builds the server and performs a credential-free MCP handshake/schema smoke test from an unrelated working directory.
  • npm start runs the compiled server.

MCP constraints

  • Never write logs or banners to stdout. StdioServerTransport reserves stdout for JSON-RPC. Use stderr for diagnostics.
  • Use the ibu_<verb>_<noun> naming convention.
  • Add tools to the relevant array under src/tools/, then register that array in src/index.ts if it is a new domain.
  • Tool schemas currently support string, number, integer, boolean, optional string enums, descriptions, and required fields.
  • Add state-changing tools to writeTools in src/index.ts; add irreversible tools to destructiveTools as well.
  • Let ibufetch() errors reach the common tool wrapper. The wrapper returns MCP errors with isError: true.

Authentication

IBU_ACCESS_TOKEN and IBU_USER_JWT come from request headers in the student's browser session. The server loads .env relative to the package root, not the MCP client's working directory. Never print, commit, or place real credentials in examples.

Verification

Run npm run test:mcp after changes. Live IBU API calls require the user's current credentials and should only be made when explicitly needed. A 401 generally means the browser-session JWT expired.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
