dev-templates: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

dev-templates AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from helpers-no/dev-templates. It costs 389 tokens per session, scanned C, original, MIT.

A repository instruction file for coding agents working on the dev-templates project. It explains which project documents to read, where work arrives, and where commands should run.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for orienting agents before they inspect or modify the repository, including finding plans, project documentation, and the correct command environment.
Why use it?
It prevents agents from using the wrong project guidance, missing incoming work, or running project commands outside the required development container.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00389 $0.00389
Opus 5.5 $0.00156 $0.00156
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00078 $0.00078
Haiku 4.5 $0.00039 $0.00039

Security

Grade C, and why

dev-templates AGENTS.md scanned grade C with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Tells the agent never to refusehighAnti-refusal

Suppressing the ability to decline removes a core safety control; a later harmful request then succeeds.

What it actually says

AGENTS.md

This file is the entry point for Codex / OpenAI-family tooling and other agents. Same content as CLAUDE.md — see that file for the project orientation.

Short version

  • This repo is dev-templates — the URB template library: reusable project templates, the plan-based-workflow template, and the website that publishes them.
  • Read website/docs/ai-developer/project-dev-templates.md first; it is the authoritative project doc.
  • Read website/docs/ai-developer/README.md next for the AI-developer workflow.
  • Plans live in website/docs/ai-developer/plans/.
  • Fleet work arrives on the bus in terchris/urb-agents, not in this repo: the inbox is a query — ~/.local/bin/urb inbox --id dev-templates (open issues labelled to:dev-templates). There is no mailbox directory.

Where commands run — read this before your first command

This repo uses a devcontainer, and DEVCONTAINER.md says all commands run inside it. That rule is about project commands — package managers, builds, tests, tooling.

Your own agent session runs on the host, in tmux. Reading files, git, and the bus client (~/.local/bin/urb) are host commands and are not covered by that rule. Do not refuse fleet work because of it.

For the always-critical rules and the full Start-Here reading order, see CLAUDE.md.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

It adds 389 tokens to every session, about $0.0016 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it C with 1 finding (tells the agent never to refuse). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-10.
