fidelis: Instructions file for Gemini CLI

GEMINI.md

fidelis GEMINI.md is an instructions file for Gemini CLI from hermes-labs-ai/fidelis. It costs 332 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A Gemini CLI instruction set for using the Fidelis local memory server. It defines when to orient on past work, retrieve recorded passages, run a quick search, or check server health.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when a user refers to prior work, decisions, failures, or ongoing projects, and when exact recorded wording or qualifiers matter.
Why use it?
It gives the coding agent rules for grounding answers about earlier decisions in stored evidence instead of inventing or loosely paraphrasing history. It also explains what to do if the server cannot be reached.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00332 $0.00332
Opus 5 $0.00166 $0.00166
Sonnet 5 $0.00066 $0.00066
Haiku 4.5 $0.00033 $0.00033

Security

Grade A, and why

fidelis GEMINI.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Fidelis Memory

This extension connects Gemini CLI to a Fidelis Memory server running on this machine. Fidelis stores the user's notes and decisions verbatim and retrieves them without an LLM. The tools below return the original passages, not summaries.

When to use the tools

  • fidelis_orient — call first when the user refers to prior work, a past decision, an earlier failure, an ongoing project, or something they "said" or "decided" before, even if the turn is not phrased as a question. It returns an evidence-bound orientation packet or explicitly abstains.
  • fidelis_recall — retrieve the passages that answer a specific question about what was recorded. Quote qualifiers exactly as returned.
  • fidelis_query — fast vector-only lookup when a short candidate list is enough.
  • fidelis_health — check that the local server is reachable and how many memories it holds. Use it when another tool reports the server as unreachable.

Rules

  • Ground answers about prior decisions in retrieved passages. Do not paraphrase a constraint or number that the retrieved text states exactly.
  • If the tools report fidelis-server unreachable, tell the user to start it with fidelis init (first run) or fidelis-server and do not invent memory.
  • Unrelated turns do not need these tools.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
