neuronpedia copilot-instructions.md

neuronpedia copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from hijohnnylin/neuronpedia. It costs 121 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A short rule for Neuronpedia coding agents: keep shared instructions in the root AGENTS.md file and also read the nearest nested instructions file.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before changing Neuronpedia code, especially in the web application or any directory with its own AGENTS.md file.
Why use it?
It prevents different coding tools from following conflicting rules and tells agents where directory-specific guidance belongs.

About the project

Neuronpedia is an open-source platform for examining how neural networks work through model activations, circuits, feature representations, and related analyses. Researchers and developers use it to inspect, search, score, visualize, and export interpretability data. Its catalogue add-ons support local development and workflows around the platform.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00121 $0.00121
Opus 5 $0.00060 $0.00060
Sonnet 5 $0.00024 $0.00024
Haiku 4.5 $0.00012 $0.00012

Measured 5d ago against content hash 1fbce2eba274, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

neuronpedia copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Copilot instructions

This repository keeps all agent instructions in AGENTS.md at the root, so that no rule is visible to one coding agent and invisible to another. Read it before making changes.

Subdirectories with their own conventions carry a nested AGENTS.md — currently apps/webapp/AGENTS.md. Read the one nearest the code you are editing, in addition to the root file.

Do not add project rules to this file; add them to the nearest AGENTS.md instead.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
