nestjs-starter config.instructions.md

nestjs-starter config.instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from hmake98/nestjs-starter. It costs 231 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of project rules for organizing configuration in a NestJS application. It defines how environment variables, configuration files, defaults, and required settings should be handled.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding configuration factories, loading them into NestJS, accessing values through ConfigService, or documenting required environment variables.
Why use it?
It keeps configuration access consistent and prevents application code from reading environment variables in scattered or unsafe ways.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00231 $0.00231
Opus 5 $0.00115 $0.00115
Sonnet 5 $0.00046 $0.00046
Haiku 4.5 $0.00023 $0.00023

Measured 3d ago against content hash 15224ff4122d, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

nestjs-starter config.instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Config Factory Conventions

  • Use registerAs('namespace', () => ({ ... })) — one namespace per file.
  • process.env is only allowed inside config factories. Everywhere else use ConfigService.
  • All factories are barrel-exported from src/app/config/index.ts and loaded via ConfigModule.forRoot({ load: configs }).
  • Provide a default for non-critical values; leave secrets as process.env.SECRET (undefined if unset is acceptable for optional features).
// src/app/config/redis.config.ts
import { registerAs } from '@nestjs/config';

export default registerAs('redis', () => ({
    url: process.env.REDIS_URL,
    ttl: Number(process.env.REDIS_TTL ?? 3600),
}));
  • Consumers always: this.configService.getOrThrow<string>('redis.url') — dot-path mirrors the registerAs nesting.
  • Add the new factory to the barrel in src/app/config/index.ts.
  • Document required env vars in .env.example.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
