Repository guidance for a personal finance application built as a Turborepo monorepo, where several related packages are managed together. It sets rules for the API, shared data types, web app, and tests.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing the WealthWise API, web app, shared types, database queries, or tests, especially when deciding where code belongs and which package commands to run.
Why use it?
It helps coding agents make small, consistent changes without breaking package boundaries or exposing one user's financial data to another.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00702 $0.00702
Opus 5 $0.00351 $0.00351
Sonnet 5 $0.00140 $0.00140
Haiku 4.5 $0.00070 $0.00070

Measured 9d ago against content hash 36d5daf2ba90, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

WealthWise-Finance-Tracker copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

WealthWise Copilot Instructions

  • This repository is a Turborepo monorepo for a personal finance product. Main packages are apps/api, apps/web, packages/shared-types, mcp, and agentic-ai.
  • Prefer the smallest defensible change that matches existing local patterns. Read nearby files before introducing new structure, abstractions, or dependencies.
  • Keep unrelated files untouched. Do not opportunistically refactor while solving a scoped task.
  • Use the exact Turbo package names when filtering tasks: @wealthwise/api, @wealthwise/web, @wealthwise/shared-types, @wealthwise/mcp, and @wealthwise/agentic-ai.

API rules

  • apps/api uses Express 4, TypeScript, Mongoose, and Zod schemas from @wealthwise/shared-types.
  • Every database query must filter by userId. There is no cross-user access pattern.
  • Keep layer boundaries strict:
    • routes/: routing and Swagger JSDoc only
    • controllers/: parse request, call one service method, return response
    • services/: all business logic and DB access
    • models/: schema and indexes
  • Use ApiError.badRequest, unauthorized, forbidden, notFound, and internal. Never throw new Error(...) in the API layer.
  • Wrap async handlers with asyncHandler.
  • Return API responses as { success: true, data } or { success: false, error: { code, message, details? } }.

Web rules

  • apps/web uses Next.js 14 App Router, React 18, Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui, TanStack Query v5, React Hook Form, and Sonner.
  • Use TanStack Query for all remote data fetching. Do not introduce raw fetch inside React components.
  • Use apps/web/src/lib/api-client.ts for API calls. Do not manually attach auth tokens.
  • Use React Hook Form + zodResolver with schemas from @wealthwise/shared-types.
  • Show Sonner success and error toasts for every mutation.
  • Handle loading, error, and empty states explicitly on data-driven screens.
  • Use Tailwind CSS only. Prefer existing shadcn/ui primitives in components/ui/ before building custom UI.
  • HSL design tokens use the format 220 13% 91%, not hsl(220, 13%, 91%).
  • Do not add files under app/api/ except the existing NextAuth catch-all route.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
