writing-template-for-ai: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

writing-template-for-ai AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from hottweelz/writing-template-for-ai. It costs 1,963 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of operating rules for an AI assistant helping write a book or manuscript. It requires an approved blueprint before drafting, editorial checks, protection of established story facts, and a handoff changelog.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps organize manuscript work in stages, review prose, preserve the book’s canon, and document changes for the author or the next assistant.
Why use it?
It prevents the assistant from drafting too early, silently changing the book’s established facts, or ending work without recording what changed.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01963 $0.01963
Opus 5 $0.00981 $0.00981
Sonnet 5 $0.00393 $0.00393
Haiku 4.5 $0.00196 $0.00196

Security

Grade A, and why

writing-template-for-ai AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md

Universal AI operating contract for this repository. Applies to Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Copilot, and any other AI coding or writing assistant.

Non-Negotiables (read first)

These hold even if the rest of this file scrolls out of context:

  1. Stage 1 before Stage 2. Never draft manuscript prose before BOOK_BLUEPRINT.md is approved by the author.
  2. Editorial pass before every handoff on any manuscript or story-architecture change (.ai/rules/editorial-pass.md).
  3. Canon mutation check before completing any substantive task (.ai/rules/canon-mutation-control.md) — never silently change what is true in the book.
  4. Write the CHANGELOG_AI.md handoff before stopping. A task is not complete without it.

Precedence: the instructions in this repository govern book-writing tasks here. If they conflict with broader or global instructions (a parent-folder AGENTS.md/CLAUDE.md, or global memory), the files in this repository win, and the agent team is the nine personas in this repo's .ai/agents/ — ignore any other "agent profile" set.

On .ai/rules/: no tool auto-discovers this directory. These rules apply because this contract tells the agent to read them. If you fork the routing, preserve the read steps.

Source of Truth

The repository is the source of truth. Do not rely on prior chat history.

Before starting work, every agent must read:

  • MEMORY.md
  • CHANGELOG_AI.md
  • .ai/rules/agent-team-selection.md
  • .ai/rules/ai-handoff.md

For any book-planning, drafting, revision, scene-planning, or production task, also read:

  • .ai/rules/editorial-pass.md
  • .ai/rules/editorial-content-guidance.md
  • .ai/rules/book-length-and-pacing.md
  • .ai/rules/publication-boundary.md
  • .ai/rules/prose-quality-protocols.md
  • .ai/rules/manuscript-file-structure.md — the one-file-per-chapter layout and assembly rules.
  • .ai/rules/canon-mutation-control.md — required for all planning, drafting, revision, editorial, and manuscript-production tasks.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
