post-kit: Instructions file for Kiro

.kiro/steering/tauri.md

post-kit tauri.md is an instructions file for Kiro from Huzaifa-ali/post-kit. It costs 948 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of instructions for structuring a Tauri 2 desktop app with a Python backend. Tauri is the desktop shell that bundles the app and opens its web interface, while a sidecar is a bundled helper process that it starts.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to coordinate a Tauri shell, a bundled FastAPI backend, sidecar startup, webview loading, and shutdown handling.
Why use it?
It keeps the Rust desktop shell small and places application work in the Python backend, making each part easier to maintain.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00948 $0.00948
Opus 5.5 $0.00379 $0.00379
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00190 $0.00190
Haiku 4.5 $0.00095 $0.00095

Security

Grade A, and why

post-kit tauri.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 16d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 129 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Tauri v2 — Thin Shell, Maximum Delegation

Tauri's job: bundle, launch, and manage the Python backend. That's it. Keep Rust minimal.

Single Responsibility

  • main.rs — ONE job: spawn sidecar, wait for ready, open webview, handle shutdown.
  • No application logic in Rust. If it can be done in Python → do it in Python.
  • No Tauri commands (invoke) unless the feature requires OS-level access that Python can't do.

Sidecar Pattern (2026 Standard for Tauri + Python)

Tauri v2 has first-class sidecar support. Use it:

Build Pipeline:
1. PyInstaller bundles FastAPI app → single binary
2. Binary placed in src-tauri/binaries/ with platform triple suffix
3. `cargo tauri build` bundles everything into installer

main.rs — The Entire Rust File (keep it this small)

use tauri::Manager;
use std::io::{BufRead, BufReader};

fn main() {
    tauri::Builder::default()
        .setup(|app| {
            // Spawn Python backend sidecar
            let sidecar = app.shell().sidecar("backend").unwrap();
            let (mut rx, child) = sidecar.spawn().unwrap();

            // Read port from sidecar stdout
            // Open webview to http://localhost:{port}
            // Store child handle for cleanup

            Ok(())
        })
        .on_window_event(|window, event| {
            // On close: kill sidecar gracefully
        })
        .run(tauri::generate_context!())
        .expect("error running app");
}

That's the target. Under 50 lines of meaningful Rust.

Process Coordination Protocol

Sidecar (Python) startup:
1. Finds available port
2. Starts uvicorn
3. Prints to stdout: {"port": 54321, "status": "ready"}
4. Serves requests

Tauri reads stdout:
1. Parses JSON line
2. Extracts port
3. Sets webview URL to http://localhost:{port}

Shutdown:
1. Tauri sends kill signal to sidecar
2. Python catches signal, runs cleanup (close DB, etc.)
3. Process exits

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
