mcp-hydrocoder-vision CLAUDE.md

Project instructions for an MCP server, a program that lets AI tools call outside functions, which analyzes images using a locally running Qwen3 VL model through LM Studio.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when developing, building, starting, or configuring this TypeScript image-analysis server for Claude Code.
Why use it?
It gives developers the commands, file structure, settings, and environment variables needed to understand and run the server.

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00413 $0.00413
Opus 5 $0.00206 $0.00206
Sonnet 5 $0.00083 $0.00083
Haiku 4.5 $0.00041 $0.00041

Measured 2d ago against content hash 2a0eb20643a4, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade B, and why

mcp-hydrocoder-vision CLAUDE.md scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

.claude/, .codex/, .gemini/ hold keys, settings and other credentials a mod has no legitimate need for.

What it actually says

CLAUDE.md

This file provides guidance to Claude Code (claude.ai/code) when working with code in this repository.

Commands

npm install      # Install dependencies
npm run build # Build TypeScript to dist/ (optional, for production)
npm run dev # Run in watch mode
npm start # Start the server using tsx (development)

Architecture

This is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that enables image analysis using Qwen3 VL 4B running locally via LM Studio.

Key components:

  • src/index.ts - Main server entry point using @modelcontextprotocol/sdk
  • Three tools exposed: analyzeImage, extractText, describeForCode
  • All image processing converts to base64 and sends to LM Studio's OpenAI-compatible API
  • Input validation via Zod schemas
  • Uses tsx for running TypeScript directly (no build required for development)

Environment variables:

Configuration

To use with Claude Code (global installation via npm), add to ~/.claude/settings.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "hydrocoder-vision": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "mcp-hydrocoder-vision"],
      "env": {
        "LM_STUDIO_URL": "http://localhost:1234/v1/chat/completions",
        "VISION_MODEL": "Qwen3-VL-4B-Instruct"
      }
    }
  }
}

Requirements

  • LM Studio must be running with Qwen3 VL 4B model loaded
  • Node.js 18+
  • TypeScript 5+ for development

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

mcp-hydrocoder-vision CLAUDE.md is an instructions file published in the GitHub repository hydroCoderClaud/mcp-hydrocoder-vision (1 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 413 tokens to every session, about $0.0021 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (reads agent configuration directories). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
