CLAUDE.md

ai-course-example CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from hzeng-otterai/ai-course-example. It costs 1,184 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A repository instruction file for an educational collection of Python examples covering chatbots, AI agents, search with retrieved documents, and web applications. It explains how to run the examples and configure required API keys.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when running, modifying, or explaining the example modules, including the Flask application and its first-time database initialization.
Why use it?
It gives a coding agent the project's purpose, startup commands, environment requirements, and database setup so it can work in the expected way.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01184 $0.01184
Opus 5 $0.00592 $0.00592
Sonnet 5 $0.00237 $0.00237
Haiku 4.5 $0.00118 $0.00118

Measured 9d ago against content hash c78440e26de5, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

ai-course-example CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

CLAUDE.md

This file provides guidance to Claude Code (claude.ai/code) when working with code in this repository.

Purpose

Educational examples for building chatbots and AI agents with LLMs, organized as independent modules demonstrating progressive complexity: direct API usage → LangChain framework → full-stack apps → agentic loops.

Running Code

All modules are standalone Python scripts. Run them directly:

python backend_api/test_chat_simple.py
python backend_langchain/test_05_rag.py
python ai_agent/test_loop_agent.py
python embedding_test/run_embedding_search.py

Required environment variables (.env file):

  • OPENAI_API_KEY (for backend_api/, backend_langchain/, fullstack_flask/)
  • ANTHROPIC_API_KEY (for ai_agent/)
  • PINECONE_API_KEY (for Pinecone examples)
  • TAVILY_API_KEY (for ai_agent/test_chat_with_rag.py)

fullstack_flask app

pip install -r fullstack_flask/requirements.txt

# Initialize DB (first time only)
python -c "from src.app import app, db; app.app_context().__enter__(); db.create_all()"

gunicorn src.app:app # http://localhost:50505
docker-compose up # alternatively

notebook_app_by_cc

# Backend (Django) — http://localhost:8000
cd notebook_app_by_cc/backend
pip install -r requirements.txt
python manage.py migrate # first time only
python manage.py runserver

# Frontend (React + Vite) — http://localhost:5173
cd notebook_app_by_cc/frontend
npm install
npm run dev

Start the backend first; Vite proxies /api/* to localhost:8000. See notebook_app_by_cc/CLAUDE.md for full architecture details.

fullstack_flask_minimal

flask --app src.app run # http://0.0.0.0:5000

Architecture

Module Overview

Module Purpose
embedding_test/ GloVe word embeddings + cosine similarity, no API required
backend_api/ OpenAI SDK examples (simple → streaming → multi-turn → function calling → agents)
backend_langchain/ LangChain equivalents (prompts, memory, RAG, tool-calling agents)
fullstack_flask/ Production-style Flask app with RAG, streaming, DB persistence
fullstack_flask_minimal/ Minimal Flask starter template
ai_agent/ Agentic loops with tool execution and context window visualization (Anthropic SDK, claude-sonnet-4-6)
notebook_app_by_cc/ Full-stack notebook app: Django REST Framework backend + React 19 SPA frontend with JWT auth and rich text editing

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
