bitbucket-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

bitbucket-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from icy-r/bitbucket-mcp. It costs 1,049 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of project instructions for an MCP server that connects AI assistants to Bitbucket, a service for hosting Git repositories and reviewing code changes. It documents its commands, architecture, and coding conventions.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when maintaining Bitbucket integrations for repositories, pull requests, branches, commits, pipelines, issues, workspaces, or webhooks.
Why use it?
It gives the coding agent a map of the server and the project’s build, test, lint, and type-check routines.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01049 $0.01049
Opus 5 $0.00524 $0.00524
Sonnet 5 $0.00210 $0.00210
Haiku 4.5 $0.00105 $0.00105

Security

Grade A, and why

bitbucket-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

Bitbucket MCP is a Model Context Protocol server (@icy-r/bitbucket-mcp) that enables AI assistants to interact with Bitbucket Cloud and Server/Data Center. It exposes 8 consolidated MCP tools (69 total actions) covering workspaces, repositories, pull requests, branches, commits, pipelines, issues, and webhooks.

Commands

Command Purpose
pnpm build Compile TypeScript via tsup (ESM + declarations)
pnpm dev Watch mode build
pnpm start Run the built server (node dist/index.js)
pnpm test Run unit tests (vitest)
pnpm test:watch Unit tests in watch mode
pnpm test:coverage Unit tests with coverage (text, json, html)
pnpm test:integration Integration tests (separate vitest config)
pnpm lint ESLint on src/*.ts
pnpm lint:fix ESLint auto-fix
pnpm format Prettier formatting
pnpm typecheck TypeScript type checking (no emit)

Run a single test file: pnpm vitest run tests/unit/auth/api-token.test.ts

Architecture

Entry flow: src/index.ts (CLI) → loads config via Zod validation → validates auth → creates BitbucketMCPServer → connects via StdioServerTransport.

Key layers:

  • src/server.tsBitbucketMCPServer orchestrates all tool registrations. Each of the 8 tools is a single MCP tool with an action enum parameter (e.g., bitbucket_pull_requests supports 11 actions like list, get, create, merge, approve).
  • src/tools/ — Tool registration files. Each receives McpServer, BitbucketClient, and Config, creates an endpoint API instance, registers the tool with a Zod schema, and dispatches on action.
  • src/api/client.tsBitbucketClient wraps fetch with retry logic (exponential backoff), rate limit handling (429 + Retry-After), timeout support, and auth header injection.
  • src/api/endpoints/ — Typed API classes (one per resource) that build Bitbucket REST paths and delegate HTTP calls to BitbucketClient.
  • src/auth/ — Factory pattern (createAuthProvider) supporting 5 auth methods: API token (Basic), OAuth2, basic auth, repository token (Bearer), workspace token (Bearer). All implement AuthProvider interface.
  • src/config/settings.ts — Zod schema for all config. Loads from env vars (BITBUCKET_* or ATLASSIAN_* prefix).
  • src/utils/output-formatter.ts — Three output formats: json (full), toon (~50-70% token savings via @toon-format/toon), compact (~76% savings using predefined field sets from compact-fields.ts).

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
