CLAUDE.md

paperclip-surfers CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from IncomeStreamSurfer/paperclip-surfers. It costs 1,152 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for Paperclip, an open-source control panel for companies run by AI agents, including its commands, architecture documents, and development setup.

In plain words
What is it for?
Working on Paperclip’s API and user interface, reading its product and implementation plans, running development mode, building workspaces, checking TypeScript, running tests, and generating database migrations.
Why use it?

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01152 $0.01152
Opus 5 $0.00576 $0.00576
Sonnet 5 $0.00230 $0.00230
Haiku 4.5 $0.00115 $0.00115

Measured 10d ago against content hash fff271c6edca, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-10, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

paperclip-surfers CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What is Paperclip

Paperclip is an open-source control plane for AI-agent companies. It provides org charts, task management, budgets, governance, approval gates, and activity tracking for autonomous AI agents. The current implementation target is V1, defined in doc/SPEC-implementation.md.

Before making changes, read: doc/GOAL.mddoc/PRODUCT.mddoc/SPEC-implementation.mddoc/DEVELOPING.mddoc/DATABASE.md.

Commands

# Install & run dev (embedded PGlite, no DATABASE_URL needed)
pnpm install
pnpm dev # API + UI at http://localhost:3100 (watch mode)
pnpm dev:once # Same but no file watching
pnpm dev:server # API only
pnpm dev:ui # UI only

# Build & verify
pnpm build # Build all workspaces
pnpm -r typecheck # TypeScript check all workspaces
pnpm test:run # Run all tests once (vitest)
pnpm test # Run tests in watch mode

# Database
pnpm db:generate # Generate Drizzle migration after schema changes
pnpm db:migrate # Apply pending migrations

# E2E
pnpm test:e2e # Playwright end-to-end tests

# Single test file
pnpm vitest run path/to/test.ts

Verification before hand-off — all three must pass:

pnpm -r typecheck && pnpm test:run && pnpm build

Monorepo Structure

pnpm workspaces. Build order matters — dependencies must build before dependents.

Package Purpose
packages/db Drizzle ORM schema (61 tables), migrations, DB client. Uses compiled dist/schema/*.js for drizzle-kit.
packages/shared Types, Zod validators, constants, API path constants. No runtime logic. Used by all workspaces.
packages/adapter-utils Shared adapter utilities
packages/adapters/* 7 agent adapters (claude, codex, cursor, gemini, openclaw, opencode, pi). Each exports ./server, ./ui, ./cli.
packages/plugins/sdk Stable plugin SDK (protocol, types, UI hooks, testing)
server Express 5 REST API, orchestration services, WebSocket realtime, auth, file storage
ui React 19 + Vite 6 + Tailwind 4 + React Router 7 + TanStack Query board UI
cli paperclipai npm CLI, built with esbuild + Commander.js

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
