AGENTS.md

mcp-sql-server AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from ineersa/mcp-sql-server. It costs 1,634 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for a PHP application that provides an MCP server for SQL databases. They describe installation, local commands, code formatting, static analysis, tests, and Docker-based database environments.

In plain words
What is it for?
They are for developing, formatting, statically checking, and testing this PHP SQL-database server.
Why use it?
They give contributors the exact project checks and setup steps needed before committing changes, including tests against several database systems.

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md.

This is ineersa/mcp-sql-server's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on mcp-sql-server itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything mcp-sql-server configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01634 $0.01634
Opus 5.5 $0.00654 $0.00654
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00327 $0.00327
Haiku 4.5 $0.00163 $0.00163

Security

Grade A, and why

mcp-sql-server AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Repository Guidelines for Agents

This repository contains a Symfony Console application acting as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for SQL databases. Follow these guidelines strictly when modifying the codebase.

1. Build, Lint, and Test Commands

Installation & Setup

  • Install Dependencies:

    composer install

    Requires PHP >= 8.4.

  • Run Console Commands:

    composer console -- <command>
    # Example: composer console -- list

  • Run the Server Locally:

    php bin/database-mcp
    # or
    php bin/console database-mcp

Configuration is handled via .env (copy .env to .env.local for local overrides).

Quality Assurance (Run before every commit)

  • Code Style Fixer:

    composer cs-fix

This runs php-cs-fixer with Symfony rules and strict type enforcement.

  • Static Analysis:

    composer phpstan

Runs PHPStan at level 6. Ensure no errors remain.

  • Run All Tests:

    composer tests

Runs PHPUnit 12 with TestDox output inside Docker containers. Automatically builds and starts all required containers (PHP, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server).

  • Stop Test Containers:

    docker compose -f docker-compose.test.yaml down

Stops and removes test containers when you're done testing.

Running Specific Tests (Fast)

Since Python and other dependencies are only available in the Docker container (not on the host), you must run tests via Docker.

Once the containers are up (after running composer tests once), you can use the composer test command to run specific tests quickly without rebuilding/restarting containers.

IMPORTANT: Before running composer test, you MUST reload fixtures to ensure database tables exist:

composer fixtures-reload
  • Reload database fixtures (required before composer test):

    composer fixtures-reload

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
