Trammel: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

Trammel AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from IronAdamant/Trammel. It costs 1,817 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A project guide for the Trammel codebase, a Rust program and its command-line and MCP tools. It documents commands, the source-code layout, supported language work, and checks to run.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when working on Trammel, especially for building, testing, checking syntax, inspecting modules, or adding language support.
Why use it?
It gives a coding agent the repository's working rules and test commands before it changes code. It also reduces the risk of publishing or tagging from the wrong branch.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01817 $0.01817
Opus 5.5 $0.00727 $0.00727
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00363 $0.00363
Haiku 4.5 $0.00182 $0.00182

Security

Grade A, and why

Trammel AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Trammel agent guide

Trammel 4.x is one std-only Rust binary (trammel, trammel-mcp) and the npm package @iron_adamant/trammel. npx -y @iron_adamant/trammel mcp starts the MCP server. The old Python version lives on the python-legacy branch. Do not tag or publish from a task branch.

Commands

cargo test
cargo build --release
cargo run --release --example bench_gate -- --self-test
cargo run --example check_zero_deps
cargo run --example check_no_todos
cargo run --example check_syntax_core

Those checks are std-only Rust in examples/, run from the repo root. No Python is needed to build, test, or check the repo. The migrate tests read tests/fixtures/trammel-3.15.3.db, written once by python-legacy's RecipeStore.

trammel doctor is JSON by default. --human prints indented JSON. --version prints {"version":"<Cargo.toml version>",...}. The version lives only in the manifests (Cargo.toml, Cargo.lock, npm/*/package.json, server.json); tests read CARGO_PKG_VERSION and fail if a manifest disagrees.

Module map

  • src/syntax/, src/lang/python/, src/lang/python_symbols/, src/lang/json.rs, src/lang/kind.rs: stele-context parser core, commit 244561a491ac4002b2c4bc94a3884091870a6d11. scripts/syntax_core_manifest.txt is their digest. The only local change is a newline index in python_symbols so line numbers stay identical without scanning the file prefix per identifier. cargo run --example check_syntax_core -- --against DIR compares with a stele checkout and stops at the first file that differs (one of those two).
  • src/lang/code.rs: lossless lexer for the other languages.
  • src/lang/symbols.rs, src/lang/imports.rs: hand-written extractors.
  • src/planner.rs, src/score.rs, src/strategies.rs, src/implicit.rs: decompose and the nine beams. Rules are data/patterns.json.
  • src/store.rs: .trammel/store snapshot. src/migrate.rs reads an old trammel.db and its WAL, read-only.
  • src/mcp.rs, src/cli.rs, src/tools.rs: one dispatch for both surfaces. src/catalogue.rs: tool descriptions and input schemas for tools/list. src/groups.rs: tool groups and the TRAMMEL_TOOLS / TRAMMEL_DISABLE switches.
  • src/benchstat.rs: the regression rule.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
