servicenow-mcp-ai: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/instructions/api.instructions.md

servicenow-mcp-ai api.instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from IvanBBaev/servicenow-mcp-ai. It costs 428 tokens per session, scanned C, original, MIT.

A set of coding instructions for the API layer of a ServiceNow integration. An API layer is the code that sends requests to another service and turns its responses into data the rest of the application can use.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding or changing ServiceNow table operations, plugin calls, request validation, write permissions, response parsing, or cancellation and progress handling.
Why use it?
It keeps requests, permissions, data validation, errors, progress reporting, and ServiceNow-specific behavior in predictable places. This makes API changes less likely to bypass safety checks or produce unsafe data handling.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00428 $0.00428
Opus 5.5 $0.00171 $0.00171
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00086 $0.00086
Haiku 4.5 $0.00043 $0.00043

Measured 7d ago against content hash 426506561f73, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade C, and why

servicenow-mcp-ai api.instructions.md scanned grade C with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Hidden instructionshighPrompt injection

Directives inside HTML comments, invisible characters or bidirectional overrides are read by the model and not by the person reviewing the file.

What it actually says

src/api — layer 1, one module per ServiceNow REST area

  • Layer rule (ESLint, M-2): import core/ and other api/ modules only — never mcp/ or tools/. Domain logic lives here; tool files stay thin.
  • Requests: Table API work goes through table.ts (queryTable, updateRecord…), plugin namespaces through pluginCall() in plugin.ts (tells an inactive plugin's namespace 404 from a missing record), anything else through snRequest() from core/http.ts. Use the shared.ts helpers: snParams(), expectResult / expectResultArray, snString(), assertNoCaret().
  • Policy before the network: assertTableAllowed() and, for writes, assertWriteAllowed() / assertTableWriteAllowed() from core/policy.ts.
  • Untyped JSON is unknown and narrowed; type-checked ESLint forbids unsafe any. ServiceNow sends most values as strings — normalise with snString().
  • Errors: throw ServiceNowError (core/errors.ts) with a fixed code and a one-sentence hint; never return error objects.
  • Long loops report progress through core/progress.ts (trackProgress, fetchAllProgress); a tick is also a cancellation point.
  • Table and field names that no code reads yet are unverified until owner gate O-5 (a PDI check) — mark them as such instead of guessing.
  • Tests run every module against a mock fetch (createFetchDouble, withFetch in test/helpers.js); nothing touches the network.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
