servicenow-mcp-ai: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/instructions/extension.instructions.md

servicenow-mcp-ai extension.instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from IvanBBaev/servicenow-mcp-ai. It costs 276 tokens per session, scanned C, original, MIT.

Project instructions for a ServiceNow MCP server and its related code extension. The server is described as providing access to ServiceNow's web API, with safeguards for planning changes, checking capabilities, and scanning access rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when developing or maintaining the ServiceNow server extension, especially for linting, tests, version updates, module boundaries, and API access safeguards.
Why use it?
These instructions help keep the server and extension consistent while they are developed and tested. They require separate checks for the extension and constrain how its files and versions are maintained.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00276 $0.00276
Opus 5.5 $0.00110 $0.00110
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00055 $0.00055
Haiku 4.5 $0.00028 $0.00028

Measured 11d ago against content hash 941ab4141681, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade C, and why

servicenow-mcp-ai extension.instructions.md scanned grade C with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Hidden instructionshighPrompt injection

Directives inside HTML comments, invisible characters or bidirectional overrides are read by the model and not by the person reviewing the file.

What it actually says

extension — the VS Code extension (separate package)

  • Its own package, tsconfig (output in out/) and ESLint config; the root npm run lint skips it. Gate: npm run lint and npm test inside extension/ (the CI extension job runs both).
  • CommonJS: no "type": "module", relative imports without an extension.
  • vscode is imported only in extension.ts. config.ts, doctor.ts and http-process.ts stay free of it so they run under plain node --test (src/test/*.test.ts).
  • SERVER_SPEC in config.ts pins the server's major version; the extension version is written by scripts/sync-version.mjs — do not bump it by hand.
  • The servicenowMcp.packages enum in package.json must equal the server's package list plus the profiles; root test/extension-manifest.test.js enforces it.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
