servicenow-mcp-ai: Instructions file for GitHub Copilot

.github/instructions/test.instructions.md

servicenow-mcp-ai test.instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from IvanBBaev/servicenow-mcp-ai. It costs 474 tokens per session, scanned C, original, MIT.

Project instructions for automated tests in the ServiceNow MCP server repository. They describe test setup, network stubs, fake clocks, reproducible property tests, coverage checks, and generated tool contracts.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when adding or updating Node.js tests, mocking HTTP calls, testing time-dependent code, checking coverage, or regenerating the tool manifest.
Why use it?
They make tests isolated and repeatable without contacting real services. They also help contributors preserve expected tool behavior and coverage while changing the code.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00474 $0.00474
Opus 5.5 $0.00190 $0.00190
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00095 $0.00095
Haiku 4.5 $0.00047 $0.00047

Security

Grade C, and why

servicenow-mcp-ai test.instructions.md scanned grade C with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Hidden instructionshighPrompt injection

Directives inside HTML comments, invisible characters or bidirectional overrides are read by the model and not by the person reviewing the file.

What it actually says

test — node:test against the compiled build

  • Tests are plain ESM test/**/*.test.js (sub-folders run too) using node:test and node:assert/strict. They import from ../build/..., so run npm run build first (npm run test:full does both).
  • Isolation: call baselineEnv() at the top of the file and freshRuntime() where state must start empty (it replaces the old _reset* hooks). Scope env changes with withEnv(overrides, fn).
  • No network. Stub HTTP with withFetch, jsonResponse, createFetchDouble / withFetchDouble (an unmatched route answers 501) or withMetadataFetch from test/helpers.js; MCP surface tests use the SDK's InMemoryTransport. Time-dependent code uses fakeClock(t) and flushAsync().
  • Property tests use fast-check with fcParams(); the seed is fixed (SN_FC_SEED overrides it), so a failure is reproducible.
  • Coverage ratchet (npm run test:coverage, c8): lines 94, branches 82, functions 97, defined once in .c8rc.json — scripts imported by tests count too.
  • Contracts: test/fixtures/tools-manifest.json is the tools contract — regenerate it with npm run gen:manifest, never by hand. The tools/list byte budget lives in test/output-schema.test.js. Goldens are regenerated deliberately with UPDATE_GOLDEN=1 npm test.
  • Guards: test/harness-files.test.js fails if a local-only AI harness file (CLAUDE.md, WORKLOG.md, .claude/, docs/ai/…) is tracked; generator guards (docs-sync, env-docs-generated, agent-instructions) fail on drift.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
