What this repo is
apple-calendar-jxa-mcp is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that gives a host app (Claude Desktop) read/write access to the user's Apple Calendar on macOS. It exposes three tools: calendar_calendars, calendar_events (read/create/update/delete), and calendar_free_slots.
It exists because the obvious approaches fail silently on macOS. Understand the two walls before you touch anything, so you can diagnose problems instead of flailing:

TCC (privacy consent) is attributed to the responsible process — the GUI app at the root of the process tree, i.e. Claude Desktop. If that app's bundle does not declare calendar usage (an
NSCalendars…UsageDescriptionkey inInfo.plist), macOS denies every calendar request instantly and silently: no permission dialog, and no entry appears in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars. Resetting withtccutil reset Calendardoes not help — there is nothing to grant because the request never becomes valid. -
Hardened runtime blocks EventKit inside Node. Official Node builds (including nvm's) are signed with the hardened runtime and without the calendar entitlement, so any EventKit call made inside a Node process is refused at the signature level regardless of TCC. Verify with:

This server routes around wall 2 by never calling EventKit from Node — Node only speaks MCP, and every calendar operation is delegated to /usr/bin/osascript (JXA), an Apple platform binary allowed to use EventKit. Wall 1 resolves itself on current Claude Desktop versions (see the next section); on older hosts the Terminal fallback covers it.
