open-agent-search copilot.instructions.md

open-agent-search copilot.instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from jayanth-mkv/open-agent-search. It costs 298 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for Open Agent Search, an open-source search service for AI agents. They describe its goals, supported ways to run it, and preferred development commands.

In plain words
What is it for?
They are used when developing or maintaining Open Agent Search, including its HTTP, MCP, Python, Docker, Vercel, and OpenClaw integrations.
Why use it?
They give contributors shared guidance about privacy, search independence, deployment options, and the project's technical conventions.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00298 $0.00298
Opus 5 $0.00149 $0.00149
Sonnet 5 $0.00060 $0.00060
Haiku 4.5 $0.00030 $0.00030

Measured 3d ago against content hash 892aa1cd7f2b, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

open-agent-search copilot.instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Open Agent Search (OAS)

Our project, Open Agent Search, is the definitive open-source search solution for the AI agent ecosystem. Our mission is to provide unfiltered, agent-neutral access to the world's knowledge.

Philosophy & Manners

  • Independence: We are not bound to any single agent framework (like OpenClaw, LangChain, or AutoGen). We stand independently as the sensory organ for AI.
  • Privacy & Accuracy: We prioritize privacy (leveraging DuckDuckGo) and accuracy above all else.
  • Universal Access: We support all deployment methods (HTTP, MCP, Pip, Docker, Vercel) to ensure any agent, anywhere, can see the world.
  • Respect for the Ecosystem: While we support specific frameworks (like OpenClaw via openclaw-search), we maintain our own identity as a foundational tool, not just a plugin.

Technical Context

  • We use uv for managing the virtual environment, running the server, and running tests.
  • When suggesting commands, prefer uv run over direct python execution.
  • We support OpenClaw integration natively.

Keep this philosophy in mind while coding. We are building the eyes of the AI.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
