energyai-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

energyai-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from jdhart81/energyai-mcp. It costs 737 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for using EnergyAI and changing its code. EnergyAI provides source-linked home-energy guidance, such as incentives, solar estimates, battery and heat-pump planning, and installer options.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when answering home-energy questions or contributing to the EnergyAI MCP repository.
Why use it?
It tells an agent which tools and limits apply, including consent, usage limits, paid quote reviews, and the difference between informational and matching services.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00737 $0.00737
Opus 5.5 $0.00295 $0.00295
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00147 $0.00147
Haiku 4.5 $0.00074 $0.00074

Security

Grade A, and why

energyai-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 38 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Agents and EnergyAI MCP

This file is for two kinds of agent: one helping a person plan solar, batteries, EV charging, weatherization or a heat pump with EnergyAI, and a coding agent changing this repository. The short machine-readable index is llms.txt.

Helping a person use EnergyAI

What it does. EnergyAI answers home-energy planning questions with source-linked guidance: incentive sources by postal code, a modeled solar production range, a provisional seven-axis Energy Node Score, cited state guides and public contractor options. With the person's explicit consent it can route a project to installer matching.

Paths to suggest.

  • No key: the five informational tools (check_incentives, estimate_production, get_node_score, list_guides, get_guide) share 20 anonymous calls per caller per day. Start with check_incentives.
  • An MCP client: add https://api.energyaisolution.com/mcp as an HTTP server, or claude mcp add --transport http energyai https://api.energyaisolution.com/mcp.
  • A quote to review: review_installer_quote after the operator has activated a key; it costs $0.10 per call. Redact the quote first.
  • Function calling without MCP: the OpenAI tool spec and examples/.

Rules for agents.

  • Pass the assumptions along with every estimate or score. Never present one as a site survey, an eligibility decision or guaranteed savings.
  • Routing needs consent: fetch consentTextForRouting from check_incentives, show it verbatim, record agreement and timestamp, then call route_lead. Without consent, offer get_quote_link instead.
  • Disclose the referral interest: a verified purchase earns EnergyAI non-cash tool credit. Do not describe it as a cash bounty.
  • Do not accept Terms, create a subscription or pay on a person's behalf. Present the human activation link from get_builder_upgrade_link.
  • Keep keys out of replies and logs. Check live pricing before a billed call.
  • Record usefulness with record_quote_review_outcome only when the operator confirms it; never infer it from a successful response.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
