What is rss-mcp CLAUDE.md?

Project Overview

RSS MCP is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that exposes RSS feed tools for use with Claude Desktop. It uses FastMCP to define tools that fetch and parse RSS feeds.

Architecture

The server is a single-file FastMCP application (main.py) that:

Loads feed definitions and blocklist from feeds.json
Dynamically registers a tool for each configured feed (e.g., get_tech_feed)
Provides a generic fetch_rss(url, limit) tool for fetching any RSS feed
Uses feedparser to fetch and parse RSS feeds
Returns filter_out_topics in responses for Claude to filter semantically

Configuration

feeds.json defines:

feeds: Named RSS feeds that become MCP tools
blocklist: Topics passed to Claude for semantic filtering (not keyword matching)
