elenchus-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

elenchus-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from jhlee0409/elenchus-mcp. It costs 935 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for Elenchus MCP, a server that uses the Model Context Protocol to coordinate a Verifier and a Critic that check code and produce a verdict.

In plain words
What is it for?
They help developers work on the TypeScript server, its session lifecycle, state management, analysis tools, and PASS, FAIL, or CONDITIONAL results.
Why use it?
They explain how to build, run, debug, and understand the project without having to discover its structure from the source code.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00935 $0.00935
Opus 5 $0.00467 $0.00467
Sonnet 5 $0.00187 $0.00187
Haiku 4.5 $0.00093 $0.00093

Security

Grade A, and why

elenchus-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

Elenchus MCP Server is an adversarial code verification system using a Verifier-Critic loop. Named after Socrates' method of refutation (ἔλεγχος), it orchestrates debate between Verifier and Critic agents via the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Build & Development

npm run build # Compile TypeScript to dist/
npm run dev # Watch mode with auto-rebuild
npm run start # Run the compiled server
npm run inspector # Launch MCP Inspector for debugging

Architecture

Core Flow

  1. Session Start → Initializes verification, builds dependency graph
  2. Round Submission → Verifier and Critic alternate submitting analysis
  3. Convergence Check → Automatic evaluation after each round
  4. Session End → Final verdict (PASS/FAIL/CONDITIONAL)

Key Modules

Module Purpose
src/index.ts MCP server entry point, registers tools/resources/prompts
src/tools/ All MCP tool implementations (session lifecycle, state management, analysis, role enforcement)
src/state/session.ts Session persistence at ~/.elenchus/sessions/, convergence detection
src/state/context.ts File collection, pre-analysis for obvious issues
src/mediator/ Dependency graph, circular detection, ripple effect analysis, interventions
src/roles/ Verifier/Critic definitions, compliance validation, strict alternation
src/prompts/ 5 MCP prompts: verify, consolidate, apply, complete, cross-verify
src/utils/data-structures.ts LRU Cache, Priority Queue, Trie for algorithm optimization

Token Optimization Modules

Module Purpose
src/diff/ Differential analysis (verify only changed files)
src/cache/ Response caching with TTL
src/chunking/ Split large files into function-level chunks
src/pipeline/ Tiered verification (screen → focused → exhaustive)
src/safeguards/ Quality safeguards, confidence scoring, sampling validation

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
