.dotfiles: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

.dotfiles AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from jkomyno/.dotfiles. It costs 432 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

An AGENTS.md instruction file for a dotfiles repository. Dotfiles are configuration files for a person's operating system and developer tools; this file explains where managed copies belong and how they are updated.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when editing personal macOS or Linux configurations, mise tool settings, installed applications, fonts, agent skills, or the repository's update process.
Why use it?
It prevents changes from being made to deployed files or the wrong configuration layer. It also clarifies which tool owns each kind of setting and which platforms are supported.

Instructions file for CodexOpenCode

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions Claude Code; mentions AGENTS.md.

This is jkomyno/.dotfiles's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on .dotfiles itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything .dotfiles configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00432 $0.00432
Opus 5 $0.00216 $0.00216
Sonnet 5 $0.00086 $0.00086
Haiku 4.5 $0.00043 $0.00043

Measured 8d ago against content hash 0856aa3d3eed, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

.dotfiles AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

AGENTS.md

Repository Context

  • This repository stores jkomyno's personal dotfiles and local agent assets.
  • Dotfiles are managed through mise [dotfiles]; edit files under target/home in this checkout rather than deployed files in $HOME.
  • Supported targets are Apple Silicon macOS, Debian 12, and Ubuntu 24.04. Linux supports x64 and arm64.

Where to Look

  • README.md explains the intended dotfiles layout and setup assumptions.
  • target/home/.agents/skills/ contains local agent skills and their workflow notes.
  • target/home/.agents/skills/sync-skills/manifest.json maps each vendored third-party skill to its upstream; sync-skills keeps them current.
  • scripts/dotfiles/update.sh (just update) is the single interface for updating every managed layer.

Tool Ownership

  • Put language runtimes and CLI developer tools in target/home/.config/mise/config.toml.
  • mise.toml contains shared mappings. mise.macos.toml and mise.linux.toml contain platform-specific mappings.
  • Put Linux-only mise tools in target/home/.config/mise/config.linux.toml.
  • Put GUI apps and fonts in install/macos/common/nanobrew-casks.Brewfile.
  • Keep install/macos/common/nanobrew-formulae.Brewfile empty unless a required package has no practical mise backend.
  • Do not duplicate a CLI between mise and nanobrew.
  • Declare Claude Code marketplaces and plugins in scripts/dotfiles/agent-plugins.json; keep settings.json enabledPlugins ids in sync with it.
  • Declare VS Code extensions in the DEFAULT_VSCODE_EXTENSIONS list in install/common/vscode-extensions.sh.

Working Rules

  • Keep changes small and scoped to the user's request.
  • Do not add secrets, tokens, private machine state, or unrelated local artifacts.
  • Use rg for repository search.
  • Before finishing, run git status --short.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
