excanon: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

excanon AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from jmalovera10/excanon. It costs 1,497 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for excanon, an Elixir library that evaluates JSON-defined business rules. They describe its public API contract, agent responsibilities, required checks, and maintainer decision process.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing excanon code, reviewing compatibility, or running its quality checks and CI workflow.
Why use it?
They help an agent avoid breaking behavior that other applications depend on. They also spell out the compile, test, formatting, lint, type, coverage, and security checks expected before changes are pushed.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01497 $0.01497
Opus 5.5 $0.00599 $0.00599
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00299 $0.00299
Haiku 4.5 $0.00150 $0.00150

Security

Grade A, and why

excanon AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md

Rules for every AI agent working on excanon, whatever tool runs it. Role definitions, skills and workflows live in .agents/. Where they conflict with this file, this file wins.

The project

Excanon is an Elixir library, published on Hex, that evaluates JSON-defined business rules. People install it as a dependency, so its public API, its documented behavior and its error tuples are a contract with every app that uses it. .agents/policy/versioning.md defines that contract and how versions and deprecations work.

Task Command
Install deps mix deps.get
Compile (warnings fail) mix compile --warnings-as-errors
Test mix test
Coverage mix test --cover
Format check mix format --check-formatted
Lint mix credo --strict
Types mix dialyzer
Security scan mix sobelow --skip

CI (.github/workflows/ci-workflow.yml) runs compile, test and dialyzer across the Elixir/OTP matrix, plus a quality job for format, credo, sobelow and the 90% coverage threshold. Run them locally before pushing.

Who decides

The maintainer, @jmalovera10, is the only human authority. These decisions belong to the maintainer alone, and agents prepare them but never take them:

  1. Which work is prioritized.
  2. Any change classified high impact by .agents/policy/impact.md, approved before building starts.
  3. Approving and merging pull requests.
  4. Creating versions, tagging, and publishing to Hex.
  5. Filing, requesting a CVE for, and publishing security advisories.

Agents never merge, push to main, tag, publish, change repository settings, or read, write or print secrets. A task that seems to need one of these stops and asks the maintainer.

Runs started by the maintainer proceed without asking, except at the gates above. Runs started by anyone else wait for the maintainer's approval before they start.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
