spectre: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

spectre CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from joenandez/spectre. It costs 1,516 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A repository guide for spectre, a plugin that organizes coding work into stages such as defining scope, planning, executing, and cleaning up. It also describes the repository layout and release checks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing spectre prompts, subagents, hooks, skills, synchronization scripts, or tests.
Why use it?
It explains which files are the source of truth and helps agents follow the intended workflow without editing generated files by hand.

Written for Claude Code: Claude Code plugin machinery. Also seen: reads .claude/ paths; mentions CLAUDE.md; mentions subagents.

This is joenandez/spectre's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on spectre itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything spectre configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01516 $0.01516
Opus 5 $0.00758 $0.00758
Sonnet 5 $0.00303 $0.00303
Haiku 4.5 $0.00152 $0.00152

Measured 9d ago against content hash 693f4faa4088, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

spectre CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

spectre is a Claude Code and Codex plugin providing a structured agentic workflow: Scope → Plan → Execute → Clean → Rebase, with standalone prune/test/sweep prompts available when only one closeout phase is needed. It's a meta-prompt orchestration system where prompts invoke subagents.

Architecture

Meta-Prompt Orchestration

Skills are contract-form workflow prompts that:

  1. Parse user arguments
  2. Spawn parallel subagents (@spectre:dev, @spectre:analyst, etc.)
  3. Subagents execute specialized prompts
  4. Main prompt synthesizes findings and produces artifacts

Subagents

Agent Purpose
@spectre:dev Implementation with MVP focus
@spectre:analyst Understand how code works
@spectre:finder Find where code lives
@spectre:patterns Find reusable patterns
@spectre:web-research Web research
@spectre:tester Test automation
@spectre:reviewer Independent review

Knowledge Skills

/spectre:learn writes reusable project skills under .agents/skills/. Codex project installs sync those skill paths into config, and agents discover them from their descriptions. Spectre does not inject startup memory.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
