temporal-mcp-server: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

temporal-mcp-server CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from jordanburke/temporal-mcp-server. It costs 2,033 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of Claude Code instructions for a time-related MCP server. It documents the project structure, development commands, supported runtimes, and a rule for keeping both runtimes working.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when developing the project to run validation and tests, start its Node or HTTP server, check the Cloudflare Worker build, and preserve compatibility across both runtimes.
Why use it?
It gives the coding agent project-specific guidance, reducing mistakes when changing, testing, or building the server.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02033 $0.02033
Opus 5 $0.01017 $0.01017
Sonnet 5 $0.00407 $0.00407
Haiku 4.5 $0.00203 $0.00203

Security

Grade A, and why

temporal-mcp-server CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

MCP server exposing time, timezone, and duration tools. It ships two entry points from one codebase: a Node binary (stdio + httpStream) and a Cloudflare Worker.

Built on somamcp ^1.2.0, which provides the MCP backend abstraction, telemetry, and health/introspection surfaces for both runtimes.

Development Commands

pnpm validate # format + lint + typecheck + test + build (run before commits)
pnpm test # Vitest
pnpm check:worker # verify the worker bundle contains no Node built-ins

pnpm start # stdio server (dist/node.js)
pnpm start:http # HTTP on :3333/mcp
pnpm cf:dev # local workerd via wrangler
pnpm cf:deploy # deploy to Cloudflare

Run a single test: pnpm test -- test/clock.spec.ts

Architecture

src/
  clock.ts pure time logic — Either<TemporalError, T>
  tools.ts MCP tool registration (runtime-agnostic)
  index.ts library surface
  node.ts     entry: somamcp      -> stdio + httpStream
  worker.ts   entry: somamcp/edge -> export default { fetch }

The rule that keeps both runtimes working

src/index.ts, src/clock.ts, and src/tools.ts must never import a Node built-in, directly or transitively. They are shared by both entry points; anything Node-only in them breaks the Worker.

  • src/node.ts may use process and Node APIs.
  • src/worker.ts must import from somamcp/edge, never somamcp. The root barrel re-exports createJsonFileTelemetry / imageContent / audioContent, which import node:fs.

pnpm check:worker enforces this by walking the import graph from dist/worker.js and failing on any node: specifier, bare Node built-in (fs, crypto, path…), or root somamcp import. It follows the graph rather than matching filenames because the bundler hoists shared code into a chunk with a generated name — a glob would miss it.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
