gx: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

gx AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from joshuaboys/gx. It costs 986 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for gx, a Rust command-line tool that manages Git project directories. They describe the code layout and the Cargo commands used to build, test, format, and check it.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding or changing gx commands, shared Rust code, tests, installers, or release workflows. They also explain where integration tests and test snapshots are kept.
Why use it?
A large Rust project can be difficult to navigate, and running the wrong command or editing the wrong package can waste time. These instructions give contributors a map of the repository and its development workflow.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00986 $0.00986
Opus 5 $0.00493 $0.00493
Sonnet 5 $0.00197 $0.00197
Haiku 4.5 $0.00099 $0.00099

Measured 8d ago against content hash b6743d9a1047, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

gx AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Not a fault in itself. Listed so you know the mod talks to something, and to what.

Repository Guidelines

Project Overview

gx is a Rust CLI for managing Git project directories. It compiles to a single statically-linkable binary with no runtime dependencies.

Project Structure

  • crates/gx/src/main.rs: binary entrypoint (gx::cli::run).
  • crates/gx/src/cli.rs: argument dispatch, --help/--version, command routing.
  • crates/gx/src/commands/*.rs: user-facing commands (clone, open, init, shell_init, etc.).
  • crates/gx/src/*.rs: shared logic — config, index_store, path, url, templates, fuzzy, resolve_name, detect, time, types, errors.
  • crates/gx/tests/: integration tests — smoke.rs and the behaviour-parity snapshots.rs harness (goldens under tests/snapshots/, fixtures under tests/fixtures/). Unit tests live in #[cfg(test)] modules next to the code.
  • plugin/gx.plugin.zsh: oh-my-zsh compatibility shim.
  • install.sh: curl installer (downloads + checksum-verifies prebuilt release assets).
  • .github/workflows/ci.yml: fmt/clippy/test/build. .github/workflows/release.yml: tag-triggered cross-platform binaries.

Tooling — Cargo

Task Command
Run from source cargo run -p gx -- <args>
Build (debug) cargo build
Build (release) cargo build --release
Run tests cargo test --workspace
Format cargo fmt
Lint cargo clippy --all-targets --workspace -- -D warnings

Prefer the standard library and the existing dependency set (serde, serde_json, regex, thiserror, dirs, indexmap). Git operations run as std::process::Command subprocesses — do not add git2/libgit2. Stay synchronous; do not add an async runtime until a feature genuinely needs one.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
