after-effects-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

after-effects-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from JUNKDOGE-JOE/after-effects-mcp. It costs 6,738 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A repository instruction file for an After Effects integration project. It sets rules for reading the architecture direction, measuring user-visible results, respecting authorization, and prioritizing work.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when planning or delivering changes to the After Effects project, especially work involving its native capabilities, project files, or acceptance checks.
Why use it?
It keeps coding agents aligned with the project’s current technical decisions and acceptance requirements instead of pursuing unrelated implementation work.

This is JUNKDOGE-JOE/after-effects-mcp's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on after-effects-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything after-effects-mcp configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.06738 $0.06738
Opus 5 $0.03369 $0.03369
Sonnet 5 $0.01348 $0.01348
Haiku 4.5 $0.00674 $0.00674

Security

Grade A, and why

after-effects-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Repository Development and Delivery Rules

These rules apply to human developers and coding agents working in this repository. They exist to keep engineering effort aligned with observable After Effects functionality. When an issue plan, reviewer suggestion, or local preference conflicts with these rules, stop and resolve the conflict in favor of the user-visible acceptance outcome unless the user explicitly changes the priority.

0.0 Read the current architecture direction first

Read docs/ARCHITECTURE_DIRECTION.md before planning any work. It was approved 2026-08-15 and it changes what work is worth doing. The delivery discipline in the rest of this file — evidence, acceptance tiers, stop conditions, .aep lifecycle — remains fully in force. Only the direction moved.

Three standing decisions constrain new work until the direction document says otherwise:

  • The native AEGP plane is frozen. Keep the .aex and its 23 primitives; add none. Do not open a new native capability package, do not extend native-primitives.json, and do not run the capability-package codegen pipeline. The two properties that justify the plane — exact rational time and generation-bound locators — are already built.
  • The former package server plane has been removed. Do not add handlers, backends, schemas, or entry points under packages/; the MCP server lives in the CEP Node context (plugin/host/).
  • The provider layer is three channels — claude CLI, codex CLI, opencode. Do not add a fourth backend adapter; the retired universalProviderRoute / providerCapabilityProbe / codexResponsesRoute facades are gone and must not return.

Two things are settled; do not re-diagnose them from scratch:

  • plugin/host/jsx-bridge.js keeps the serialization lock across a timeout and drains the persistent engine with a sentinel before releasing it (#260); plugin/host/jsx-bridge.test.js asserts that a timeout keeps the lock. Do not reintroduce an early release.
  • Claude Desktop uses the installed extension's dependency-free host/stdio-shim.js with the user's system Node. Claude Code uses the panel URL directly; no package-server installation flow is supported.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
