openapi-tools-mcp AGENTS.md

A project instruction file for guiding coding agents working on an OpenAPI tools server. It defines design principles, quality checks, and rules for keeping tools, documentation, and tests aligned.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to guide implementation work, review pull requests, update MCP tool descriptions and schemas, and keep the README and regression tests current.
Why use it?
It gives the agent clear project-specific rules before changes are made, reducing inconsistent code, outdated documentation, and missed checks.

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00251 $0.00251
Opus 5 $0.00125 $0.00125
Sonnet 5 $0.00050 $0.00050
Haiku 4.5 $0.00025 $0.00025

Security

Grade A, and why

openapi-tools-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

  • never use pip. Use uv pip instead.
  • keep README.md up to date whenever the server changes.

Design Philosophy

  • MCP tools should be self-describable: generated tool descriptions, parameter schemas, README examples, and tests should tell the same story without requiring users to inspect implementation code.
  • Keep the public tool surface small and flexible: prefer extending existing tools and input shapes when that preserves compatibility, and avoid adding narrowly scoped tool names unless a distinct workflow genuinely requires one.

Quality Gates

  • MCP server self-documentation is part of the public API. When a change affects tool behavior, inputs, outputs, caching, errors, or supported sources, the implementation quality gate must inspect generated MCP tool metadata and verify that descriptions and parameter schemas are up to date with the shipped features. Add or update regression tests for generated tool metadata when practical.

Agent Workflow

This section is managed by agent-flow sync; do not edit it directly. Add project-specific instructions outside the agent-flow markers.

  • Before making implementation changes, checking PR state, addressing PR comments, or running PR checks, read and follow prompts/agent-flow-implement.md.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
