grok-bot-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

grok-bot-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from Kargatharaakash/grok-bot-mcp. It costs 818 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for an MCP server, a small program that lets AI agents use tools through a standard connection. They describe a Node.js server that connects agents to Grok Bot and reads local agent databases.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when changing or testing this server, working with its JSON-RPC tools, token handling, gateway connections, or read-only SQLite database readers.
Why use it?
They give contributors a shared reference for the project structure, supported commands, technology choices, and testing approach.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00818 $0.00818
Opus 5 $0.00409 $0.00409

Haiku 4.5 $0.00082 $0.00082

Security

Grade A, and why

grok-bot-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

AGENTS.md

Project

grok-bot-mcp is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that bridges AI agents to Grok Bot. Single file: server.mjs. Zero dependencies. JSON-RPC over stdio.

Tech stack

  • Node.js 18+ (ESM, uses global fetch)
  • Zero npm dependencies — Node built-ins only (crypto, fs, child_process, os, path, readline)
  • MCP protocol: JSON-RPC 2.0 over stdio (protocol version 2024-11-05)
  • No TypeScript, no bundler, no framework

Commands

node server.mjs # start MCP server (stdio)
node --test tests/*.test.mjs # run tests (all mocked, no real calls)

No build step. No compile step.

Architecture

server.mjs
├── crypto helpers (checksum, obfuscate, machineId)
  ├── token acquisition (getTokenFromGrokBot, getTokenFromGbu)
├── gateway discovery (env vars → ~/.gbm/config.json — no Keychain on tool calls)
  ├── setup command (one-time Keychain decrypt → writes ~/.gbm/config.json)
├── API calls (callDashboard → ConnectRPC, callGateway → local or cloud HTTP)
  ├── SQLite reader (readAgentDb, listAgentDbs — read-only)
├── MCP tool definitions (TOOLS array — 10 tools)
├── tool handlers (handleTool — switch on tool name)
  └── JSON-RPC server (readline → parse → dispatch → respond)

MCP tools

10 tools exposed:

  1. list_bots — gateway listAgents
  2. create_bot — gateway createAgent
  3. delete_bot — gateway deleteAgent
  4. send_message — gateway sendPrompt
  5. get_transcript — gateway getAgentTranscriptTail
  6. search_bots — gateway searchAgents
  7. check_usage — ConnectRPC GetSandUsageStatus + GetCurrentPeriodUsage
  8. list_databases — reads ~/.grokbot/agents/ directory
  9. read_transcript_entries — reads store.db SQLite directly
  10. search_messages — scans all store.db files with LIKE query

Testing

  • Tests in tests/ use mocks only
  • No real Grok Bot calls, no network, no database writes
  • tests/server.test.mjs — MCP protocol tests (initialize, tools/list, error handling)
  • tests/gateway.test.mjs — gateway descriptor parsing (local + cloud formats)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
