image-tiler-mcp-server: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

image-tiler-mcp-server CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from keiver/image-tiler-mcp-server. It costs 1,179 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A coding guide for an MCP server that cuts large images into tiles for AI vision systems and captures full-page website screenshots.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when developing, building, testing, or inspecting this TypeScript server, including its image-tiling and scrollable-page screenshot features.
Why use it?
It helps prevent AI models from shrinking large images too much and handles web pages that exceed Chrome’s screenshot height limit.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01179 $0.01179
Opus 5 $0.00589 $0.00589
Sonnet 5 $0.00236 $0.00236
Haiku 4.5 $0.00118 $0.00118

Security

Grade A, and why

image-tiler-mcp-server CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

MCP server that splits large images into optimally-sized tiles for LLM vision systems (Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, Gemini 3). Prevents automatic downscaling by keeping each tile within each model's sweet spot. Also captures full-page screenshots from URLs via Chrome DevTools Protocol, with scroll-stitching for pages exceeding Chrome's 16,384px capture limit. Built with the MCP SDK, Sharp (libvips), ws (WebSocket for CDP), and Zod.

Published as image-tiler-mcp-server on npm. Requires Node >= 20. This is a library/tool (not an app): inputs come from MCP clients, not untrusted end users.

Model configs available via tiler://models resource. See docs/architecture.md for full module and test inventory.

Commands

npm run build # Compile TypeScript -> dist/
npm run dev # Watch mode (tsc --watch)
npm start # Run the compiled server (node dist/index.js)
npm run inspect # Launch MCP Inspector for interactive testing
npm test # Run test suite (vitest)
npm run test:watch # Run tests in watch mode
npx vitest run src/__tests__/schemas.test.ts # Single test file

No linter is configured.

Architecture

Transport: stdio only (single-session, local). Entry point is src/index.ts.

One unified MCP tool: tiler (src/tools/tiler.ts). Mode is auto-detected from params:

  • Tile-image mode (has filePath/sourceUrl/dataUrl/imageBase64): Splits image into grid tiles saved to tiles/{name}/. Returns JSON metadata + up to 5 tile images inline with pagination.
  • Capture-and-tile mode (has url or screenshotPath): Captures URL screenshot via Chrome CDP, tiles it, returns first batch inline. Stop after Phase 1 for screenshot-only use.
  • Get-tiles mode (has tilesDir): Reads tiles from disk, returns base64 images in batches of 5 with pagination via start/end.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
