docker-mcp-server CLAUDE.md

docker-mcp-server CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from kenforthewin/docker-mcp-server. It costs 3,167 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Project instructions for developing and operating a Docker-based MCP server. Docker runs the server in an isolated container, while MCP lets an agent use its commands and data.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to build the TypeScript server, start or restart its container, inspect logs, open a container shell, and understand its HTTP and bearer-token setup.
Why use it?
It collects the repository's build, startup, shutdown, logging, shell, and architecture guidance in one place.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.03167 $0.03167
Opus 5 $0.01584 $0.01584
Sonnet 5 $0.00633 $0.00633
Haiku 4.5 $0.00317 $0.00317

Security

Grade A, and why

docker-mcp-server CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Development Commands

Docker Operations

  • npm run docker:build - Build the Docker image with server code
  • npm run docker:up - Start the containerized MCP server
  • npm run docker:down - Stop and remove the container
  • npm run docker:logs - View server logs (follow mode)
  • npm run docker:restart - Rebuild and restart the container
  • npm run docker:shell - Open bash shell in running container
  • ./reset-docker.sh - Complete reset (stop, clean workspace, rebuild, start)

Local Development

  • npm run build - Compile TypeScript to JavaScript in /dist
  • npm install - Install dependencies

High-Level Architecture

This is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server that runs entirely inside a Docker container and provides command execution capabilities. The server is exposed via HTTP with bearer token authentication.

Core Components

  1. MCP Server (src/index.ts) - TypeScript server using @modelcontextprotocol/sdk with StreamableHTTPServerTransport
  2. HTTP Transport - Network-based communication on port 30000
  3. Bearer Token Auth - Secure authentication for all requests
  4. Docker Container - Debian-based container with Node.js, Playwright, and the MCP server
  5. Workspace Mount - Host ./tmp directory mounted to container /app/workspace for persistent file storage
  6. Process Management - Tracks background processes with unique IDs and timeouts

Container Environment

  • Base Image: node:current-trixie (Debian with current Node.js)
  • Additional Tools: git, xdg-utils, jq, python3, Playwright with dependencies
  • Server Location: /app (contains built MCP server code)
  • Working Directory: /app/workspace (mounted from host ./tmp)
  • Exposed Port: 30000 (mapped to host port 30000)
  • Container Name: mcp-container

Architecture Changes from Previous Version

OLD (Host-Based):

  • MCP server ran on host machine
  • Used stdio transport (stdin/stdout)
  • Commands executed via docker exec into separate container
  • Container only provided execution environment

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

docker-mcp-server CLAUDE.md is an instructions file published in the GitHub repository kenforthewin/docker-mcp-server (6 stars, last pushed 8mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 3,167 tokens to every session, about $0.0158 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
