msgvault AGENTS.md

Repository instructions for AI coding agents such as Codex, Claude Code, or Copilot CLI. They define which project references to follow, how to handle private information, when to use review tools, and how to test with the testify testing library.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them to guide agent behavior, protect sensitive project names, control code-review commands, and set expectations for testing and pull requests.
Why use it?
They give different coding agents consistent rules for working in the same codebase. They also help prevent private project details from appearing in public code or documentation.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00707 $0.00707
Opus 5 $0.00353 $0.00353
Sonnet 5 $0.00141 $0.00141
Haiku 4.5 $0.00071 $0.00071

Measured today against content hash b8ceafd1fde3, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

msgvault AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 67 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

AGENTS.md

This file applies to all AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Copilot CLI, etc.) operating in this repo.

Authoritative References

  • Baseline operating principles: CONSTITUTION.md (read and follow it before acting).
  • Project guide: CLAUDE.md (this file is authoritative; AGENTS.md inherits its rules).

Roborev

  • Never invoke the roborev review CLI command in any form unless the user explicitly asks for it. Use all other roborev CLI commands normally when they are appropriate for interacting with roborev. Never invoke a roborev skill (including roborev-fix or roborev-design-review-branch) unless the user explicitly asks for that skill.

Content Hygiene

  • Never name private downstream projects or other private codebases in public code, tests, fixtures, documentation, commit messages, pull requests, or issues. Describe the reusable requirement generically and run the private-data scrub before publishing.
  • Do not add Validation, Test plan, or equivalent command-run sections to pull request bodies. CI check results carry routine validation evidence; keep the PR description focused on rationale, behavior, and review boundaries.

Testing — Use testify

All Go tests use github.com/stretchr/testify. New tests and modifications to existing tests MUST use assert.X or require.X from testify — never t.Errorf, t.Fatalf, t.Fatal, or t.Error.

  • require.X halts on failure (was t.Fatal*). Use for setup or fatal preconditions.
  • assert.X continues on failure (was t.Error*). Use for independent value checks.
  • Equality takes (want, got), not (got, want). Always: assert.Equal(t, want, got).

The mapping cheatsheet is in CLAUDE.md under the Testing section.

Testing — No Fake TDD

Do not add tautological tests that copy shell scripts into synthetic temp trees, stub the primary commands, and only assert that the stub saw expected arguments. Exercise the production path, a real validator/parser, or a built artifact instead. See CLAUDE.md for the full rule and narrow exception.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
